Nonprofit Interim Controller
Scion Nonprofit has been engaged to conduct a search for an experienced Interim Controller for an outstanding nonprofit organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is an exceptional opportunity to partner with a mission-driven organization and provide hands‑on financial leadership during a critical period.
This is a hybrid, interim engagement, with potential to extend.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the organization through the year‑end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Prepare the finance team for the annual audit, serving as the primary liaison with the external audit firm
Report directly to the President
Review and approve journal entries and key accounting activities
Establish, document, and communicate year‑end close policies and procedures
Prepare and review financial statements
Provide ad hoc financial analysis to support leadership decision‑making
QUALIFICATIONS
10+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting leadership roles
2+ years of nonprofit financial leadership experience strongly preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field
CPA strongly preferred
DEEP EXPERTISE IN
Financial accounting and reporting
Budget development and management
Grant and project accounting
Internal controls and audit preparation
Experience managing and reporting on government contracts and grants preferred
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and leadership skills
Proficiency with Sage Intacct is a plus
