Job Summary

Distribution Services at CU Boulder invites candidates for the Materials Handler I role. The position supports the Moving & Hauling and Surplus Property units within the Distribution Center, assisting with moving, hauling, auction, furniture programs, and processing incoming Surplus Property. Responsibilities include handling, receiving, screening, separating, dismantling, and recycling items, evaluating higher‑value assets, and using AssetWorks to manage resale inventory. Key Responsibilities

Move & Haul / Surplus Property

Pick up Surplus Property from CU Boulder and other campus locations. Move furniture, computers, workstations, and boxes up to and greater than 75 lbs. Set up and disassemble furniture and equipment with hand and power tools. Push, pull or lift items greater than 100 lbs. using appropriate equipment. Load and unload trucks, following safety guidelines. Ensure trucks are unloaded, docks cleared, and equipment stored by the end of each day. Drive university vehicles as needed, including CMV‑capable box trucks. Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material‑handling equipment. Transport trash and debris for disposal. Provide logistics support for special events.

Warehousing & Receiving

Receive items from drivers and verify accuracy against AssetWorks paperwork. Assist in valuing and placing surplus items, including recycle, trash, electronics, furniture, and online sales. Collaborate with Surplus Property Coordinator, Logistics Coordinator, and other specialists. Use forklift to perform warehousing duties. Move items to appropriate storage areas.

Other Duties

Assist with the CU Boulder Surplus storefront during business hours or events. Support campus sustainability initiatives and process improvement efforts. Maintain safe work practices, attend safety meetings, and complete required trainings. Take pictures, gather item information, and provide customer support for online sales. Participate in cross‑training within Property Services or the Distribution Center. Notify supervisors of safety incidents and hazards.

Qualifications

Requirements

Colorado resident. Valid Colorado driver’s license. CMV certification or ability to obtain within first 3 months. 1 year of relevant occupational experience or equivalent education/experience.

Skills & Experience

Strong oral and written communication. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Familiarity with computer applications.

Preferred

AssetWorks Ready, AIM, GO experience. AssetWorks ReCoup software experience. Knowledge of the CU Boulder campus. Customer‑facing experience.

Compensation & Benefits

Annual salary range: $41,844 – $42,036. Eligible for higher pay under the State Step Pay Program if applicable.
