234041 Manual Handling Advisor (EGPP)
NHS Ayrshire & Arran, Lothian, Maryland, United States, 20711
Band 6 (£41,608 - £50,702)
Department: Manual Handling Service (MHS)
Directorate: Lothian Occupational Health and Safety Service (LOHSS)
Location: Pan Lothian
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic registered clinical professional, AHP or Nurse with a degree (or professionally equivalent clinical qualification), with recent relevant clinical experience who is highly passionate and motivated to contribute their specialist knowledge towards delivering our flexible MHS. Our service delivers a high-quality manual handling education programme, including onsite competency assessments, covering every job family in NHS Lothian; both clinical, non‑clinical and Estates and Facilities staff groups.
The successful candidate will represent the team/service as an accountable and approachable professional who is committed to continuous professional development and promotes safer systems of work to benefit both patient/client and staff safety. The role requires strong core skills of organisation, flexible working and planning.
The post requires a working knowledge of safer manual handling practice and the application of principles around Ergonomics and Human Factors (HFE). Our service is committed to providing development and education to the successful candidate in these areas as part of the induction and development process.
The successful candidate will be subject to a robust probationary period which will involve monitoring of key learning objectives, such as our manual handling education programme, as well as service specific processes including onsite competency assessments, audit and monitoring.
It is an exciting time to join this growing team in this service, to educate and support staff in the field of manual handling, providing specialist input to education, complex handling situations (clinical, non‑clinical and Estates and Facilities), as well as raising awareness and improving safe working practices for every job family in both acute inpatient and community areas of work.
This role is an integral part of our greater MHS covering NHS Lothian, which is embracing innovation through several ongoing projects to drive the MHS forward in terms of service development.
The post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check than currently. If the post is assessed as a “regulated role”, your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. If there is any change to what is currently required, this will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team. For more details on these changes please visit: Disclosure Scotland Changes.
Interviews: in addition to interview questions, the process will also include assessed practical elements, undertaken face‑to‑face; with details provided to the candidates selected for interview.
Candidates are encouraged to contact the hiring manager to learn more information about the role, what skills/experience/values would be applicable (as outlined in the job description and person specification), as well as understanding the role from a ‘day to day’, ‘week to week’ perspective and what that typically looks/feels like.
