The Post The core purpose of the Digital & Security organisation is to provide world‑class Digital and Security expertise, solutions and services to our customers, which include NSS, NHS Boards, the Scottish Government and the wider public sector in Scotland. The National Clinical Informatics Service for Scotland is involved in Clinical Safety Assurance of Health IT; Software as a Medical Device; Health & Care Analytics; Clinical Terminologies; Digital Health & Care Solutions; Clinical Data & Information; Research & Innovation; and Training & Events.

About the Candidate Scotland’s Digital Health and Care Strategy commits to a standards‑based approach to clinical and care safety cases for all major systems, creating demand for clinical assurance on new IT solutions. The Principal Clinical Informatician will play a critical role in enhancing the clinical safety of a range of IT solutions supported by the Digital & Security Business Unit.

Responsibilities

Enhance the clinical safety of IT solutions developed or supported by the Digital & Security Business Unit.

Contribute to clinical safety assurance across Health IT domains such as Software as a Medical Device, Health & Care Analytics, Clinical Terminologies, Digital Health & Care Solutions, Clinical Data & Information, Research & Innovation, and Training & Events.

Collaborate with customers—including NSS, NHS Boards, Scottish Government, and broader public sector—to deliver world‑class solutions.

Qualifications

Clinical Registration at the time of applying.

Knowledge of clinical safety approaches in the context of IT solutions.

Successful completion of a Disclosure Scotland check; candidates who have lived or worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding five years must provide an overseas criminal record check.

UK residency required for the role.

Location and Working Pattern Post may be based in Gyle Square, Edinburgh; Delta House, Glasgow; or any other NSS location. The working pattern is hybrid, Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.
