Job Summary Under the direction of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor or Landscape Maintenance Leadworker, the Landscape Maintenance Worker maintains functional and landscaped plantings; controls weeds; performs irrigation repair, soil sterilization, and mixes and applies chemicals for weed and insect control; operates and maintains light equipment; and performs general labor tasks associated with maintenance of the State Highway system. In the absence of a supervisor or leadworker, a responsible person in charge per Chapter VIII provides guidance.
Responsibilities
Maintain functional and landscaped plantings.
Control weeds and perform irrigation repair, soil sterilization, and chemical applications for weed and insect control.
Operate and maintain various light equipment for highway maintenance.
Execute general labor tasks associated with State Highway system maintenance.
Adhere to guidance from the Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor or Landscape Maintenance Leadworker.
Qualifications
Eligibility determined by score on the Caltrans Landscape Maintenance Worker exam; must be on the state examination list if new to state civil services.
Valid and unrestricted Class C driver’s license.
Must pass a drug screening prior to hire.
Proof of education may be required if qualification is based on education; provide unofficial or official transcripts.
Applicants with foreign transcripts must provide a U.S. equivalency evaluation.

Drug screening must be passed before employment.
