The

HR Manager

is a strategic partner and hands‑on operator supporting a distributed, multi‑state workforce. You will own the execution of core HR programs, ensure compliance, and champion culture—serving as the trusted go‑to resource for leaders and team members across multiple locations. Success looks like strong relationships, crisp execution, and measurable improvements in engagement, retention, and operational readiness.

Success Requirements

Agility:

Efficiently manage human resource operations across multiple locations and states, offering prompt and informed guidance on a comprehensive array of HR matters.

Relationship Leadership:

Establish a regular cadence of communication that deepens trust, strengthens culture, and elevates teamwork and collaboration.

Time on the Road:

Travel 20–30% to conduct branch visits, deliver leader training, and investigate/resolve employee relations matters.

Adaptability & Proactivity:

Identify opportunities to streamline, scale, and continuously improve processes in a dynamic growth environment.

Responsibilities

HR Operations:

Serve as the primary HR support for assigned regions; administer benefits; ensure HRIS accuracy.

Compliance & Risk:

Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws; manage leave and DOT requirements; keep personnel files audit‑ready.

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding:

Partner with hiring teams to attract top talent and deliver a welcoming, well‑structured onboarding experience.

Employee Relations & Performance:

Provide support to employees and managers; resolve issues; be a resource for performance management and coaching.

Culture & Engagement:

Support recognition, team‑building, and other initiatives that reinforce Axis values and morale.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration:

Work closely with operations, safety, finance, and other partners to align HR programs with business needs.

Lifecycle Management:

Manage day‑to‑day HR activities from onboarding through separation, ensuring consistent, high‑quality experiences.

Navigate Needs:

Under the direction of leadership take ownership of designated HR areas; drive positive metrics; implement clear tracking and reporting.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s in HR, Business, Management, Communications, or related field; PHR or SHRM‑CP preferred.

Experience:

5+ years of progressive HR experience supporting multi‑state teams in fast‑paced environments; strong foundation in state and federal laws (California experience preferred); DOT compliance experience a plus.

Technical Know‑How:

Broad HR expertise across compliance, compensation & benefits, recruitment & onboarding, training & development, performance management, employee relations, and leave administration; HRIS proficiency (Rippling preferred).

Core Skills:

Exceptional communication, relationship‑building, and problem‑solving; organized, detail‑oriented, and tech‑savvy.
