Job Summary The Emfinger lab in the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center explores factors that drive diabetes risk by altering insulin secretion and action, focusing on ways in which these factors interact.

The lab uses multiple model systems in wet‑lab experiments as well as dry‑lab informatics analysis.

The employee at this position will be responsible for carrying out research procedures involving mice (genotyping, in‑vivo assays, colony maintenance), cell/tissue culture, molecular biology assays, and some informatics data analysis.

Self‑motivation, positive attitude, passion and dedication for science, organizational skills, excellent interpersonal, verbal and written English skills are essential for this position.

The employee will perform and coordinate multiple lab tasks with fellow members on a daily basis, and will also ensure maintenance of lab supplies, equipment and proper disposal of all materials.

Prior experience in animal handling, metabolic research, programming, and islet biology are a plus.

Physical Requirements Sitting during procedures for long periods of time (benchwork/computer analysis) and repeated manual actions (e.g. pipetting, typing). Moving and lifting objects from floor to above shoulders up to 25 pounds. Continuous working with materials requiring personal protective equipment (EHS policy).

Shift Monday‑Friday 8:30am‑5:00pm, occasional time on evenings and weekends may be required by specific experiments.

Preferred Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree and about one year relevant experience working in a research laboratory.
