Job Description The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a dedicated and hardworking team player to enhance the quality of life for Nebraskans by building and maintaining a convenient, safe, and innovative statewide transportation system.
Pay rate $19.941 per hour; promotion to Technician II achieves $22.938 per hour.
Exciting Added Pay Differentials:
$1/hour
after 1 year of continuous service,
$1/hour
after 3 years, and
$1/hour
after 5 years.

Job Duties
Perform inspection duties on highway construction projects, including preliminary surveying, construction surveying, and ROW staking.
Sample and test construction materials and document contractors’ daily work.
Read and interpret construction and bridge plans.
Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Operate snow removal equipment as needed.
Work varying hours outdoors on highway construction projects; schedule may include nights, evenings, weekends.
Receive all necessary training, materials, equipment, and safety apparel.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Age 18 or older.
Valid driver’s license.
For Technician II: experience or coursework in surveying, materials testing, or field inspections; or completion of NDOT Math, Highway Plan Reading, and Bridge Plan reading courses, or an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or related field.
Must obtain Class A or B CDL within 90 days through in‑house training.
Regular and reliable attendance.
May require overnight travel.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in surveying, road construction, materials testing, record keeping, trigonometry, geometry.
Experience operating heavy equipment or snow removal equipment.
Computer experience: word processing, spreadsheets, SiteManager, GEOPAK, MicroStation.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Ability to work and communicate with a team, work independently, be self‑motivated, hold high integrity, be trainable, and accept challenges. Demonstrate safe and reliable practices, treat coworkers with respect, and make sound decisions.
