Job Description The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for a Paralegal in its Early Complaint Assessment Bureau (ECAB). In this position the Paralegal is responsible for providing time‑sensitive clerical support to DANY’s Trial Bureaus and Case Management Unit.

Responsibilities

Help to draft Criminal Court complaints.

Obtain case information and supporting arrest documents from Police or security personnel.

Prepare case summaries outlining the circumstances of arrests.

Interview Police Officers or Security personnel to determine appropriate charges.

Assist with the processing of completed cases in the Complaint Room.

Maintain computerized records of all arrests pending the completion of a complaint.

Assist with the screening and assignment of arrests.

Provide administrative and technical support to Assistant District Attorneys.

Perform related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Level 1 – bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.

Level 2 – bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and one (1) year of experience either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent.

Level 3 – bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent.

Preferred Requirements / Skills

Ability to work weekends and holidays.

Ability to work overtime on short notice.

Previous clerical experience.

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Ability to update and edit existing proprietary databases.

Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.

Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.

Must be able to perform under pressure in a fast‑paced environment, detail oriented and self‑motivated and able to multi‑task.

Ability to interact with all levels of staff, law enforcement representatives and outside visitors.

Additional Information

Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least one (1) year in their current unit/bureau/department and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum and additional qualifications of the position.

Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.

Qualifications (Community Work)

High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or

Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
