Eye Care for Animals – Veterinary Assistant – Ophthalmology Chicago, IL (Downtown Location)

Full‑time: Monday‑Friday 7:45am – 5pm

After hours and on call rotation availability

Eye Care for Animals – Chicago is looking for a full‑time Veterinary Assistant to join our team as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.

About You As a Veterinary Assistant, you’ll play an important role in pets’ lives by providing comprehensive care throughout their journey. Your life‑changing work will range from hands‑on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to surgery assistance, to support services including admitting and discharging patients.

Other qualifications include:

Previous veterinary technician/assistant experience required

CVT preferred, but not required; CVT eligible

Proficient in IV catheters placement, blood work, and IV, IM, and SQ injections

Proficient in surgery (monitoring anesthesia and working with various monitoring equipment)

Team player

Eager to learn and is self‑motivated

Enjoys a challenging and fast‑paced environment

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Proficient computer skills (email, uploading/downloading files, typing, etc.)

Ability to multi‑task with a smile

Job Overview The Veterinary Assistant is responsible for a variety of tasks related to customer service and patient care within the veterinary practice. Tasks include animal handling, pre, and post‑operative patient care, creating and presenting financial options and estimates, accurately entering service charges into the client processing database, extensive client interaction, and preparing medications. Compensation is based on experience and skill set.

Compensation negotiable based on credentials and experience with an hourly pay rate $24‑$28/hr. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, ophthalmology knowledge, qualifications, certification, and experience.
