Job Description:
We are seeking a dynamic, results-driven Sales Specialist with deep experience in the supermarket and food retail channel to join our growing team in the food industry. This role requires a passion for the food sector and a proven track record in developing and expanding business relationships with supermarkets, grocery chains, and specialty food distributors. The position is preferred to be based in California and involves travel across the United States to engage with clients, develop new opportunities, and stay current on market trends and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Strategy:
Drive revenue growth by identifying and acquiring new business opportunities and brand presence within supermarkets, grocery chains, and related distributors. Execute effective sales strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets while strengthening long-term client relationships.
Territory & Planning:
Within the first 100 days, develop a clear, actionable territory plan focused on supermarkets and retail channels, with measurable goals and accountability.
Customer & Account Management:
Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts, ensuring excellent service and responsiveness. Address customer issues quickly and professionally to maintain trust and long-term relationships.
Networking & Relationship Building:
Build and maintain strong relationships with supermarkets and retail channels, and food distributors. Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and customer meetings relevant to food market.
Product Launches & Promotions:
Introduce new products, promotions, and merchandising programs tailored to consumer preferences and shopping behaviors. Collaborate with marketing to ensure effective in-store execution and promotional support.
Market Expansion:
Identify and pursue growth opportunities across the US, leveraging regional consumer trends and industry insights.
Regulatory & Compliance Awareness:
Stay current on food industry regulations, including labeling, import requirements, and state-specific compliance standards.
Negotiations & Contracts:
Negotiate pricing, promotions, and contractual terms with customers while ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
Market Intelligence & Reporting:
Monitor industry trends and competitor activity, providing actionable insights to help shape business strategy. Prepare regular sales performance reports and update the team on business development progress.
Perform other duties and responsibilities to be assigned as required.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years in sales or business development in the food industry.
Existing network and relationships within the California supermarkets, groceries, retail channels, food distributors strongly preferred.
Proven ability to meet or exceed sales targets and grow market share.
Strong account management and new business development capabilities.
Strong networking, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Strong understanding of market trends, competitor strategies, and consumer preferences in the food industry.
Technology competent – familiar with CRM, ERP, spreadsheets, presentation materials and video conferencing.
Willing to travel frequently across the US.
Legally authorized to work in the United States.
Bilingual – English, Mandarin or Cantonese.
