Building Automation Technician IV Location: Hanover, NH

Schedule: Monday‑Friday, 7:30 am‑4:00 pm. Saturday/Sunday off.

Position Purpose The Building Automation Technician IV displays expert skills in the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electronic building controls systems. This role involves regular testing, maintenance and troubleshooting of building controls systems and advanced skill in specialty systems such as Aircuity, laboratory and greenhouse controls. The technician works independently or under general supervision, demonstrating expert proficiency in building automation at Dartmouth College.

Responsibilities

Work on primary control systems: Johnson Controls, Honeywell and Niagara.

Maintain integration contact with specialty controls such as laboratory, greenhouse, Aircuity, Energy Management System, etc.

Perform regular testing and maintenance of mechanical systems, including assessment and troubleshooting.

Verify equipment receives proper control signals.

Plan work details, follow schematics, control sequences and wiring diagrams.

Determine work methods for repairs and replacements.

Perform diagnostic tests on digital systems for campus Central Environmental Control (CEC) system and replace electronic parts as needed.

Maintain systems, components and equipment per work orders, dispatch calls, or other assignments.

Inspect control and safety systems to confirm compliance with plans and specifications.

Adjust system controls to maintain proper campus conditions.

Document system installations, repairs, calibrations and tests.

Perform in‑house upgrades of controllers, actuators, thermostats, sensors.

Restart systems after major failures.

Demonstrate knowledge of Phoenix, Aircuity and other control systems.

Collaborate with IT Services and Campus Services Troubleshooters to maintain wiring infrastructure.

Work closely with the FOM Building Automation System Engineer to implement new sequences and repairs.

Participate in building commissioning and recommissioning.

Troubleshoot and repair HVAC and steam systems.

Assist vendors with installs, modifications and repairs.

Continue further training with proprietary vendors.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalency.

Minimum eight years of relevant experience with Johnson, Honeywell and Niagara control systems.

Valid driver’s license and compliance with Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.

Strong troubleshooting skills for pneumatic control systems.

Completion of controller‑vendor specialized classes.

Basic computer skills: word processing, email, spreadsheets, smartphones or tablets.

Ability to document and record issues and procedures.

Ability to read building plans and use college data sources such as O&M manuals.

Proficiency with laptops, smartphones, tablets, and other electronic devices for control systems.

Hand and power‑tool skills, including multimeter, light meter, temperature/humidity meter.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work independently under minimal supervision.

Strong customer service and communication skills with employees and occupants.

Physical stamina for demanding activity, heights, manual dexterity.

Willingness to work overtime when required.

Completed training: Safety (EHS), Laboratory safety/Hazardous Waste Management, Asbestos Awareness, Bloodborne Pathogen for Non‑Research Employees, Confined Space, Lock‑out/Tag‑out, Fall Protection, Electrical Safe Work Practices.

Other Information Union: SEIU – positions available to SEIU members only during the first week of posting. After that, the position opens to the general public and other Dartmouth community members.
