The Business Manager, OR is responsible for overall business operations of the Surgical Services Departments including the Operating Room and perioperative services, SPD and the Ambulatory Care Center. They handle information and fiscal management, data analysis, utilization, fiscal forecasting, day‑to‑day business operations, scheduling, budget development and monitoring key financial indicators and performance metrics. They adjust business activities as needed based on changing financial situations.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Surgical Services and working closely as a member of the management team, facilitate integration, management, and data needs for all Perioperative Services for the hospital campus.
Take a leadership role, working with physicians, supervisory and non‑supervisory staff to integrate the organizational perspective in local operating areas to achieve high levels of patient, physician, and team member satisfaction.
Ensure appropriateness of expenditures and all contract agreements. Provide ongoing interpretation of financial and clinical data for service and medical staff to facilitate understanding of the impact of their clinical/service practice on the financial goals.
Report trends in data that reflect system issues. Prepare complex independent analytical studies and projects and advise senior management regarding finances, reports and other business activities.
Develop information tracking systems, preparing and displaying data concerning operations, improvement initiatives, and system changes.
Monitor charge masters, billing, budget and variance reports, and recommend improvements, simplifications, and compliance measures.
Work with coders and financial resources to ensure accurate billing, rapid turnaround, and tracking of volume, expenses and quality service delivery.
Prepare financial analyses for daily operations as well as special projects as required.
Involved in the development and/or management of budgets for assigned areas, regularly monitor key financial indicators and performance metrics, modifying business activities as needed.
Oversee day‑to‑day business operations including budget, contracts, charge master, analysis for program development, reimbursement changes, and informatics support of the current electronic documentation program for the perioperative areas.
Participate in preparing and evaluating current financial and inventory practices, charge audits, and statistical analysis of procedure costs and OR utilization.
Manage and/or assist in recruitment, development and supervision of team members; create and sustain an environment that fosters engagement; establish clear objectives tied to departmental and organizational strategic goals; coach, counsel and evaluate performance of direct reports.
Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.
Four (4) or more years of business management experience.
Ability to manage division budgets.
Knowledge of surgeon and/or general physician practice operations.
Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and motivational skills including group facilitation and team building skills.
Critical thinking, program development, and project management skills.
Demonstrates customer service skills.
Demonstrates emotional maturity and ability to function effectively when under stress.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient computer skills that include Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
MBA.
Compensation Starting at $106,329.60 annually.
