Position Overview:

The 35n Literacy Interventionist – Classroom Support is a grant-funded position designed to support the implementation of the Section 35n READ Innovation Grant in grades 4–9. This position works alongside the district’s 35n Literacy Coach / Intervention Provider and focuses on providing direct instructional support to students within Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III settings. The 35n READ Innovation Grant is a competitive funding source through the Michigan Department of Education. The FY 2025–26 grant is a one-year grant term with potential for second and third year funding pending success of implementation.

Qualifications: Required:

Associate’s degree

Experience working with students in small-group or intervention settings.

Ability to follow instructional plans and deliver interventions with fidelity.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff.

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree.

Basic understanding of structured literacy and the science of reading.

Experience with REWARDS or similar evidence-based reading programs.

Experience supporting Tier II and Tier III literacy interventions.

Familiarity with literacy progress monitoring tools.

Essential Requirements: Instructional Support and Intervention

Provide in-class support during REWARDS instruction in Tier I classrooms, with a focus on Tier III students who require intensified support.

Deliver small-group reading intervention aligned with the REWARDS program under the guidance of the 35n Literacy Coach.

Support co-teaching of REWARDS intervention groups.

Provide instructional support related to the REWARDS intervention.

Reinforce decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies consistent with structured literacy and the science of reading.

Support differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Progress Monitoring and Assessment

Administer progress monitoring assessments (e.g., STAR Reading and REWARDS pre and post-test) when not assigned to in-class instructional support.

Assist with collecting, organizing, and reporting student reading data.

Support data-informed instructional decisions by sharing assessment results with the Literacy Coach and instructional teams.

Collaboration and Communication

Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, interventionists, and the 35n Literacy Coach to ensure aligned and effective instruction.

Participate in MTSS discussions related to student progress and intervention support.

Communicate clearly and professionally with staff regarding student needs, instructional strategies, and scheduling.

Maintain confidentiality regarding student data and instructional records.

Program Support

Assist with preparation and organization of REWARDS instructional materials.

Support consistent implementation of intervention schedules without disrupting Tier I instruction.

Carry out additional literacy-related tasks as assigned by the Literacy Coach or the Director of Student Services in support of the 35n grant goals.
