Requirements

Associate’s degree in Nursing required.

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.

Minimum 2 years of experience as a registered nurse with previous charge nurse or similar leadership experience required.

Must have Labor and Delivery experience.

Texas RN license required upon hire.

BCLS – Basic Cardiac Life Support required prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly.

ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support required within 90 days of hire.

CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training required within 90 days of hire and maintained annually.

NRP – Essential Neonatal Resuscitation Program required within 90 days of hire.

NRPA – Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program required within 90 days of hire.

IFM – Intermediate Fetal Monitoring required within 2 years.

High degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with leadership, UBC, and appropriate team members to establish, implement, and monitor department policies/procedures, facilitate unit goals, evaluate and individualize patient care and provide direction to staff to promote quality outcomes.

Provide bedside leadership on a particular unit or units and shift, coordinating patient flow, patient care, and assignments. Assist the manager/director with human resource management including evaluations, coaching, mentoring, recruitment, retention, education, and orientation. Work with manager/director to control costs and manage department budget and productivity. Facilitate patient/nurse assignments based on volume, acuity, and skill mix.

Effectively communicate with patients, families, and other healthcare team members by incorporating the eight caring factors in the Quality Caring Model: basic human needs, human respect, encouraging manner, affiliation needs, mutual problem solving, healing environment, attentive reassurance, and appreciation of unique meaning.

Incorporate THR philosophy in working with peers and other members of the healthcare team. Partner with physicians to advance physician melhor engagement.

Assimilate leadership responsibilities on the unit and across the entity/system. Promote a positive image of Texas Health Nursing. Commit to autonomous maintenance and continuous improvement of competence and serve as a role model to other healthcare team members. Hold self and others accountable for highly reliable behavior.
