Post Anesthesia Care Unit Registered Nurse (PACU RN) – Variable Shifts | Contract We are seeking experienced Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurses for a 26-week contract assignment with a variable schedule. This role is ideal for critical-care–trained nurses who excel in fast-paced post-operative environments and are flexible with shift assignments, including weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage.

Schedule: Variable shifts (8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts)
Shifts may include Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends, and Holidays
On-call requirement: 0–3 shifts per month (8-hour nights or 24-hour weekends/holidays)
No guarantee of hours or shift preference
Position Urgency: Normal
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in pre-op, Phase I, and Phase II recovery
Monitor and assess post-anesthesia patients for stability, complications, and pain management
Evaluate incision sites, vital signs, body temperature, and overall recovery status
Administer medications and treatments per anesthesia and surgical protocols
Utilize critical-thinking skills to identify and respond to post-operative complications
Accurately document patient care and outcomes using the electronic medical record
Collaborate with anesthesiology, surgical teams, and interdisciplinary staff
Maintain a safe, organized PACU environment and ensure proper use of equipment
Equipment & Systems Used
EPIC (EMR)
Meditech
PCA pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV pumps
Cryocuff, Sequential Compression Devices (SCDs)
Bair Paws warming systems
HP and Phillips patient monitors
Required Qualifications
Active Hawaii RN license (must be active by the start of the assignment; travelers must apply upon offer acceptance if not already licensed)
Minimum of 2 years of PACU experience or
At least 2 years of critical care RN experience (ER or ICU) in a hospital setting
Strong post-anesthesia assessment and critical-care skills
Certifications
BLS (AHA)
ACLS (AHA)
PALS (AHA) preferred and may be required
Additional certifications such as NIHSS or TNCC may be preferred
Additional Requirements
Proof of flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to assignment
Must arrive prior to assignment start to complete employee health onboarding
Holiday coverage may be required
