Job Summary

As a DEA Special Agent you will lead investigative teams to combat drug trafficking and protect national security. Your work will have a daily impact on the safety and well‑being of Americans. Responsibilities

Conduct complex criminal investigations targeting narcotics and drug‑related activities. Prepare comprehensive investigative reports and deliver briefings for senior personnel and other Federal, state, and local agencies. Identify and apprehend drug traffickers and arrest individuals engaged in criminal drug activities. Gather and analyze evidence through investigative leads, seizures, arrests, execution of search warrants, and other means. Testify on behalf of the Federal government in court or before grand juries. Basic Agent Training

Applicants who have not completed prior federal law enforcement training must attend a 16‑week residential training program. Eligible former 1811 applicants who have successfully completed a Federal Criminal Investigation training program may qualify for a 3‑week Special Agent Transition Program (FCIT transcripts required). Requirements

U.S. citizenship required. Obtain and maintain a Top‑Secret security clearance. Additional clearance determinations may be required. Sign a mobility agreement allowing relocation to any DEA facility as determined by agency needs. Complete a pre‑employment medical clearance and an annual medical examination. Pass a full‑scope pre‑employment polygraph (1811 applicants with prior polygraph may seek reciprocity). Register or obtain exemption from Selective Service (males born after 12/31/59). Be at least 21 years old and not older than 36 at the time of appointment, unless a veteran preference or federal civilian law enforcement retirement qualification applies. Successful E‑Verify employment verification check required. Serve a 1‑year or 2‑year trial period during which fitness and public‑interest advancement will be evaluated. Maintain a valid state driver’s license and be subject to random drug testing. Complete a 16‑week Basic Agent Training (BAT) course at the DEA Training Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Qualifications

MUST have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GL/GS‑05 level or pay band. Experience may be met by graduate level education as described below.Substitution of education for experience: One full year of graduate level education that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform duties; or superior academic achievement (SAA) with a bachelor’s degree meeting stringent criteria. Combination of education and experience may be used if the computed percentage of the requirements is 100% or more (experience percentage + education percentage). Graduate education: One year of graduate study corresponds to 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours). Graduate credentials must be accredited by a U.S. Department of Education‑certified institution.
