Position Description The Ingram School of Engineering of Texas State University has launched a new Mechanical Engineering program that incorporates Industry 4.0 tools and technologies throughout the curriculum to prepare students who can design and develop mechanical and thermal systems that are intelligent, interconnected, and integrated with the virtual world and emerging digital infrastructures.
The program seeks to fill a tenure‑track position in solid mechanics at the Assistant Professor level, expected to begin Fall 2026.
Establish an externally funded research program in solid mechanics.
Demonstrate a strong commitment to student‑centered teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Participate in curriculum and program development.
Perform university and professional service.

Required Qualifications
Earned Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline.
Academic and research background in solid mechanics.
Research competence evidenced by publications in peer‑reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
Demonstrated excellence in communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Research focus in multi‑scale modeling, computational mechanics using AI, metamaterials, composite materials, biomechanics, bio‑inspired materials, or energy dissipation.
Postdoctoral and/or industrial experience.
Record of teaching experience in the United States.
Expertise in artificial intelligence (AI).
Ability to collaborate with faculty across multiple departments and programs.
Knowledge of ABET accreditation procedures and deliverables.
Experience writing and securing grants and contracts.
