Our First Alert Weather team is committed to delivering timely, accurate, and life‑saving weather information to a diverse, rural audience across 25 counties. WKYT, our sister station in Lexington, produces extensive news coverage and programming across the entire 45‑county DMA and offers additional meteor weighs and collaboration opportunities.
Job Summary Join WYMT, the CBS affiliate serving the scenic Appalachian Mountains of southeastern Kentucky. WYMT is seeking an engaging meteorologist to join our First Alert Weather team in Hazard. You will work with the WYMT weather staff and collaborate with douleurs meteorology team;base at our sister station, WKYT in Lexington. We are looking for a broadcast meteorologist who delivers accurate forecasts with clarity, energy, and a strong sense of community responsibility. This role will support weekday morning broadcasts, severe weather coverage, and digital/social weather content.
Responsibilities
Analyze scientific data and weather models to produce accurate short- and long-range forecasts for a large and topographically varied viewing area.
Deliver engaging, conversational weather presentations across TV, streaming, digital platforms, and social media.
Identify and communicate the "weather story of the day," translating technical information into clear, actionable guidance for the public.
Track and forecast severe weather events, issuing timely alerts and recommendations to help keep our community safe.
Coordinate with editorial staff to integrate weather information into news planning and live coverage.
Design and implement weather comedian and data visualizations to enhance storytelling and audience understanding.
Work in the studio and in the field as needed for live or pre-recorded segments.
Write and produce weather/science/community-focused content for multiple media platforms.
Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of experience as a broadcast meteorologist.
BS/BA in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Communications, Journalism, or equivalent educational background.
Valid driver's license and a clean driving record; ability to drive safely in varied weather conditions.
Flexibility to work assigned shifts and adjust schedule during breaks or severe weather.
Preferred Qualifications
Seal of Approval or certification from the National Weather Association (NWA) and/or American Meteorological Society (AMS).
Familiarity with WSI MAX or similar weather graphics/forecasting systems.
Strong social media and digital content experience, including producing short forecast clips.
