Job Description:
The Office of Inspector General (OIG) performs many functions for the Cabinet. The Nurse Surveyor II assists in enforcing licensing regulations for health facilities, conducting certification surveys and investigations, and ensuring compliance with CMS regulations for acute care hospitals, hospices, and home health facilities.
Responsibilities:
Coordinates and assists in enforcement of state licensing regulations for health facilities.
Performs certification surveys and investigations to determine compliance with CMS regulations.
Completes all aspects of the survey process.
Completes training and obtains Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test certification from the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare.
Assists in the development of program information and materials.
Observes quality of patient care and associated medical records.
Participates in conferences, webinars, and other training to improve regulatory knowledge.
Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
Good interpersonal skills and respectful communication.
Ability to interpret regulations, policy, and procedures.
Flexible with work schedules, assignments, travel, and overtime.
Excellent writing and speaking skills.
Proficiency with computers, tablets, and smartphones for daily tasks.
Physical ability to traverse large healthcare facilities during surveys/inspections.
SMQT Certified (preferred).
Ability to work mandatory overtime and weekends when needed.
Willingness to travel and stay overnight.
Minimum Requirements:
Two years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
A bachelor's degree may substitute for one year as a licensed practical nurse.
Must be licensed in Kentucky as a practical nurse or possess a valid work permit from the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
Must maintain required licensure, certifications, or credentials for the duration of employment.
Special requirements: age, licensure, regulation, etc., as specified.
Working Conditions:
Work performed in healthcare settings, may involve traversing facilities and occasional home health observations. Overtime, travel, overnight stays, and weekend work are required when assigned to a survey team.
Probationary Period:
Initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months.
