About The Firm PHWJ is a busy law firm focused on commercial litigation, creditor remedies, landlord‑tenant matters, and enforcement of judgments in Kansas and Missouri. We are seeking a detail‑oriented Commercial Paralegal / Legal Assistant to support attorneys related to such work.
Position Summary The Commercial Paralegal / Legal Assistant is responsible for managing files from initial intake through resolution. Duties include drafting pleadings, coordinating service, calendaring hearings, communicating with courts and clients, assisting with discovery, assisting with hearing and trial preparation, and preparing post‑judgment remedies such as garnishments, executions, and debtor examinations.
Key Responsibilities_endpoint
Intake new matters and review client documentation
Draft pleadings, motions, affidavits, discovery, and correspondence
Prepare demand letters, notices to vacate, and client correspondence
Efile pleadings in Kansas and Missouri courts
Monitor court dockets and calendar deadlines and hearings
Communicate with courts, clerks, judicial assistants, and opposing counsel
Coordinate service of process and follow up on returns
ոռAssist with discovery and motion preparation
Prepare post‑judgment remedies including garnishments, writs of restitution, executions, and debtor exams
Assist with arbitration award confirmations and foreign judgment registrations
Maintain accurate case notes in the case management system
Provide administrative and docketing backup support
Maintain calendars for hearings and deadlines
Qualifications
Paralegal certificate, associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
Prior paralegal or commercial litigation experience is a plus
Strong organizational and time‑management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High attention to detail and professionalism
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and court e‑filing systems
