Overview Patient Representatives are instrumental in ensuring the efficient and effective flow of patient access needs throughout the organization. Responsibilities include greeting and registering patients, collecting demographic and insurance data, verifying coverage, scheduling appointments, providing financial information, price estimates, and collecting payments. Knowledge of billing and coding requirements is required. The representative must fully understand the ramifications of incomplete and inaccurate information on patient care and the revenue cycle. The position works in a team environment and delivers exceptional customer service. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

曾 High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

Patient Representatives assigned to an Emergency Department team will be placed into a weekend standbyներին rotation based on facilityynd. This standby rotation begins Friday at 7pm to Monday at 7am and could occur from two to no more than six times a year.

Medical Terminology, CPT and ICD-10 coding strongly preferred.

Basic typing at 45 WPM, basics ten‑key, and computer skills within a Windows environment.

Experience with multiple computer applications/operating systems and office machines.

Knowledge of HIPAA and confidentiality requirements, insurance payer regulations and requirements, and patient rights.

Knowledge of revenue cycle components and the role in impacting the overall process.

Knowledge of the impact of accurate registration on patient satisfaction.

Analytical skills to solve simple to semi‑complex problems.

Organization, prioritization and time management skills.

Attention to detail.

Ability to multi‑task.

Flexibility to facilitate change.

Ability to maintain composure under considerable deadlines, customer contact, and high‑volume work that produces levels of mental/visual fatigue typical of jobs that perform a wide variety of duties with frequent and significant uncontrollable deadlines. Work may include going full attention to a personal computer or CRT up to 40 % of the time. The job produces some physical demands – walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and light lifting objects.

Take calls in a high‑volume incoming call center.

Schedule and register patients for outpatient radiology appointments.

Communicate appointment information accurately and efficiently for multiple facilities and ancillary departments across the systemindia.

Verify insurance eligibility using online systems.

Collect and enter payments, following required balancing procedures.

Analyze, interpret and enter physician orders.

Scan and index forms.

Verify insurance for scheduled and urgent emergent patients following guidelines established per payer and obtain authorization based on payer‑specific criteria.

Accurately complete assigned work queues.

Identify financial counseling needs.

Maintain confidentiality in verbal, written and electronic communication.

Follow established processes, protocols and workflows.

Takes initiative to resolve problems and meet patient needs.

For Cancer Center ONLY

Associate's degree in related field, or 2 years related experience and/or training in a healthcare environment preferred. (Consider also 2 years of experience in a business office setting.)

Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) preferred.

Assist employees and visitors with any concerns they might have.

Assume Continental responsibility for the safety and security of designated areas.

Monitor security cameras; identify potential security risks and respond accordingly.
