The Legal Services program assists Bay Area immigrants with legal help, citizenship classes, counseling, disabilities issues, restitution for Holocaust survivors, and more. We serve people from all over the world and in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Russian, and Hebrew. Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Legal Services, the Legal Assistant (Full-time Flex) provides administrative and case support for the Legal Services Department. Responsibilities include completing immigration forms, communicating with clients and agencies, and interpreting/translating for clients. The role involves maintaining strong team relationships and providing accurate information and follow-up. The position anticipates 75% of time in San Francisco and 25% in Palo Alto, with potential adjustments. Compensation and Benefits:
Pay Range: $26 - $28/hr (dependent on experience) Full-time, non-exempt with benefits Employer 403(b) retirement match and additional contributions Cafeteria benefits plan including health insurance, FSAs, retirement, and wellness programs 16 holidays annually (including Jewish holidays) 3 weeks vacation and 2 weeks sick leave annually In-person position only Essential Job Duties:
Perform administrative support functions with minimal supervision Serve as primary contact for clients, responding to inquiries via phone or email Meet clients in person Assist with USCIS forms, consular documents, and case tracking Prepare and organize paper applications and case files Respond proactively to client inquiries and update them on case status Follow up with immigration offices on case progress Job Qualifications:
Interest in working with underserved populations seeking legal services Fluency in Spanish required High School diploma or higher; J.D. or paralegal certification preferred Experience in immigration law preferred At least 1 year of administrative support experience Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Knowledge of immigration issues and cross-cultural communication Ability to commute to both offices All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply, including minorities, women, veterans, and disabled individuals.
