Senior Network Enginee r to manage and enhance the city's network infrastructure. This role is crucial in ensuring the reliability, security, and efficiency of network operations, encompassing firewalls, switches, wireless systems, and core infrastructure components. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience in network troubleshooting, design, and architecture, contributing to the city's mission of delivering exceptional public services. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Network Infrastructure Management:

Oversee day-to-day operations of firewalls, switches, wireless systems, and ISP connections, ensuring optimal performance and security. Act as primary subject matter expert with regards to layer 2 and 3 design and functions. Troubleshooting and Repair:

Diagnose and resolve network issues promptly to minimize downtime and maintain service continuity. Manage internal changes for firewall and routing. Power and Rack Management:

Manage power systems, rack configurations, and cable organization within data centers. Environmental Controls:

Monitor and maintain data center air conditioning systems to ensure equipment operates within optimal temperature ranges. Network Monitoring:

Implement and manage network monitoring tools to proactively identify and address potential issues. Software Patching:

Apply patches and updates to network device software, maintaining compliance with security standards. DNS/DHCP/WINS Management:

Configure and manage network services to support seamless connectivity and address resolution. Lifecycle Management:

Plan and execute the lifecycle of network hardware and software, from procurement to decommissioning. Ensure operational readiness through thorough documentation, change control, and knowledge sharing. Work cross-functionally with stakeholders and non-technical business users. SUPERVISION EXERCISED/SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Receives general supervision and is expected to prioritize work to meet deadlines and to keep the supervisor informed of issues that would impact achievement of a deadline, organizational policy or procedure or in consideration of risk management. WORK SCHEDULE:

The normal work week is Monday through Friday 8:00 am-6:00 pm with every other Friday off. Depending on area of assignment staff may be assigned to a shift that is outside the standard work hours. This position may be required to be available to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs. The standard work environment varies depending on assignment but is typically either primarily in an office setting or out in the field. The City does not offer hybrid or remote work.

Please note:

The Information Technology Department supports public safety personnel including the Police Department. Therefore, as part of the selection process, applicants will be required to successfully complete a thorough background investigation, which includes a polygraph exam.

Provide technical guidance to the IT team, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. Design, implement, and/or maintain scalable and secure IT solutions. Optimize IT systems and operations to ensure high availability, reliability, and performance. Conduct technical evaluations, feasibility studies, and cost-benefit analyses for IT initiatives and investments. Adhere to IT policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance and security best practices. Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide timely resolutions to minimize downtime and disruptions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software developers, engineers, and project managers to integrate systems and improve overall IT efficiency. Stay current with industry trends and advancements to recommend and implement innovative solutions that drive continuous improvement. Drive nitiatives to enhance security and efficiency while ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Participate in software upgrades and technology integrations ensuring minimal disruption to business operations. Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. Minimum Qualifications The following are the minimum qualifications necessary for entry into the classification: EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field EXPERIENCE:

Five (5) years of hands-on experience (which should include 2 years of experience comparable to a Business Systems Analyst) with the following Network Engineering disciplines:

Firewalls:

Proficient in daily operations and troubleshooting of Cisco Firepower platform firewalls Switches:

Experienced in managing Cisco and Meraki devices, repairing network switches. Wireless Systems:

Skilled in maintaining and troubleshooting wireless network components. ISP Coordination:

Ability to manage ISP services and troubleshoot connectivity issues, with experience in WAN/MAN configurations in large environments Power Management:

Knowledgeable in managing power distribution and backup systems. Rack/Cable Management:

Experienced in organizing and maintaining network racks and cabling. Data Center A/C:

Familiar with monitoring and maintaining data center cooling systems. Network Monitoring:

Capable of designing and implementing network monitoring solutions. Software Patching:

Proficient in applying patches to network devices and ensuring system integrity. DNS/DHCP/WINS:

Skilled in configuring and managing essential network services. Lifecycle Management:

Experienced in planning and executing hardware and software lifecycle strategies.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid CA Class C Driver's License Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent preferred.

Highly Desirable

:

Local government or public sector experience especially public safety (police and fire). Experience in designing and architecting network systems, including firewalls, switches, wireless networks, and ISP configurations. Ability to design power distribution and rack systems for optimal efficiency. Skilled in designing data center layouts with effective cooling and airflow management.

NOTE:

Retirement Contributions: New members (as defined by PEPRA), 2% @ 62; "Classic" members 2% @ 55. The employee will be required to pay a portion of their annual earnings toward their retirement. Vacation/Annual Accrual Rates: Leave accrual rates vary between 6.24 - 11.78 hours per pay period based on years of service.

Administrative Leave: Management employees are not compensated for overtime worked. However, the department director may authorize up to 40 hours of administrative leave in one year.

Deferred Compensation: The City contributes 1% to a deferred compensation program. Bilingual Pay:

A regular full time employee may receive bilingual pay at the rate of $50.00-$100.00 bi-weekly depending on the Level the employee is required to provide bilingual services as determined by the City Manager or designee. Health and Dental: Employees can choose from a variety of medical plans provided by the City. The City's contribution to medical coverage is outlined below:

Level One

- For employees hired before January 1, 2023, the City contributes $1,543.00 per month toward medical insurance premiums and an additional $74.21 per month toward dental insurance premiums. Employees will receive cash back if the medical plan they choose is less than the City's monthly contribution of $1,543.00 per month. Employees who waive medical insurance will receive cash back in the amount $1,243.00 per month provided they provide proof of other qualifying coverage. Any unused dental premium monies are paid to the employee.

If employees hired prior to January 1, 2023 make any changes to their health plan, they will be placed in level two.

Level Two

- For employees hired on or after January 1, 2023, the City will contribute $1,956.00 towards medical insurance premiums with no cash back. Employees who waive medical insurance will receive $500.00 per month cash back provided they show proof of other qualifying coverage. The City will continue to provide $74.21 per month towards dental insurance.

Holidays: The City observes 12 holidays per year

Life Insurance: City employees receive Basic Life Coverage ($5,000) + AD&D ($10,000) + 1 times annual salary 100% paid by the City. Employees also have the option to purchase additional insurance.

Tuition Reimbursement: Full-time employees are eligible for 75% reimbursement for work related coursework up to a maximum of $5000 per fiscal year. 01
