I. Job Overview and General Purpose
The Benefits Specialist is responsible for providing support for Benefits Plan Administration.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Administers the following benefit plans: Medical, Dental, Vision, Short-Term Disability, and Life Insurance.
Administers the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
Administers the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Administers COBRA (Continuation of Health Coverage).
Administers the annual Open Enrollment for benefits.
Administers Qualifying Events pertaining to benefits enrollment.
Administers Flexible Spending for employees and dependents.
Submits reports to governmental agencies relating to benefits administration.
Administers the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
Compiles and distributes reports to the operating companies, as needed.
Processes the new hire state reporting.
Serves as a back-up to payroll for keypunching and entering new hires.
Serves as a back-up to Human Resources for various human resources tasks.
Assists the Human Resources Manager and Payroll and Benefits Manager with various projects.
Prepares, organizes, secures, scans, files and maintains human resources information, general correspondence, legal documents, personnel records and other related documents into COINS ERP+ in a timely manner.
Interacts with and supports field operations on benefits matters and processes.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment/benefits laws and compliance requirements; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures.
Maintains confidentiality.
III. Other Duties
Administers programs, procedures, and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the company.
Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars as necessary to represent the department.
Other work-related duties and projects as assigned.
IV. Qualifications
Education/Experience:
Associates or Bachelors Degree in Business Administration or Human Resources preferred. Three to five years of experience in benefits administration required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills:
Written Comprehension The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing; the ability to effectively communicate information and ideas using various reports and other correspondence in writing. Reading Comprehension The ability to read and interpret documents such as employment laws and regulations, Company policies, and legal documents pertaining to employment. Oral Comprehension The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences, as well as the ability to effectively communicate information and ideas when speaking to individuals and groups. Mathematical Skills:
The ability to effectively understand and apply basic concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to understand and effectively work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Reasoning Ability:
Ability to effectively solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Judgement:
Ability to reach logical conclusions based on established evidence. Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality. Planning and Organizing:
Ability to plan and organize ones own activities. Follow Up and Control:
