Level II Screening : NO Under the general direction of the Network Manager, position is responsible for performing complex computer and network telecommunications systems planning and installation. Work involves analysis and set up of network hardware systems for the City. Work is performed with limited direction and considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation : Essential Employees
may be required to work during a declared emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice. Non Essential Employees
will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work. Design and implement and maintain sophisticated networking systems. Manage network data back up and disaster recovery. Provide software and hardware support to all computer users. Maintains and supports VoIP telephone system. Oversee computer inventory tracking. Establish and monitor network security and anti-virus software. Monitor network for performance and make recommendations for improvement. Maintain and enhance Help Desk knowledge base. Prepare written reports for the ITS Director as requested. May be required to work in on-call status during assigned periods. May be required to drive a motor vehicle to perform assigned tasks. This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee's physical presence at the workplace Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software. Knowledge of the occupational hazards, personal protective equipment required, and safety precautions of the work. Knowledge of network operating systems, data and file structure. Skill in written, verbal, electronic, and visual communications for effective expression and clarity. Skill in organization, prioritization, and time management. Ability to apply sound judgment and interpretation based on acquired knowledge in circumstances where limited standardization exists. Ability to speak and document clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to operate necessary equipment, including personal computer, network server, network equipment, mainframe, network routers, tape library system and testing and diagnostic equipment. Minimum Requirements
Associate's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or closely related field which emphasizes computer software/hardware; or equivalent experience and combination of formal training equivalent to two years of college required. Progressive experience as a Network Engineer that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job functions may be substituted for the degree. Two years' experience working as a network engineer or related work. Must be able to pass Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) background check. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with acceptable driving record. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
