Job Title:
CFD/Aftertreatment Engineer - MATLAB/ Simulink Location:
Onsite - Columbus, IN
Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated
MATLAB/Simulink and CFD Engineer
to support the development and simulation of diesel exhaust after-treatment systems. This role will be primarily onsite in
Columbus, IN , with collaboration across global engineering teams and external catalyst suppliers.
The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in MATLAB/Simulink modeling, thermal-fluid sciences, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), with an emphasis on catalyst modeling and system simulation of components such as
DOC, DPF, SCR, and NASD .
Key Responsibilities:
MATLAB / Simulink Focus: Develop, calibrate, and validate aftertreatment component models (DOC, DPF, SCR, NASD) using engine test data or synthetic data. Create complete system-level models and support simulation via
MATLAB Simulink . Develop and utilize
S-functions ,
FMU models , and automation tools for simulation and post-processing. Conduct
model validation
and
calibration development
using ECU/ECM data. Support
Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL)
and
Software-in-the-Loop (SiL)
applications for early-stage control software validation. Use
AVL Cruise M
as the primary simulation tool for system-level modeling and performance evaluation. Catalyst Modeling:
Work with internally developed and supplier-provided catalyst models. Evaluate and enhance model accuracy and robustness. Develop user-friendly analytical tools in MATLAB for use by internal engineering teams. Cross-functional Collaboration:
Work closely with product business units (BUs), calibration engineers, and catalyst suppliers to support integration and validation efforts. Improve existing modeling processes and simulation workflows. CFD Requirements (Secondary/Optional Role Support):
Tool Utilization:
CAD Cleanup / Meshing:
Ansys Workbench, SpaceClaim, ICEM (Hex/Tetra), Fluent Meshing, ANSA, STAR-CCM+ Solvers:
Ansys Fluent, Ansys CFX, STAR-CCM+ Post-Processing:
Ansys CFD Post, Fluent, STAR-CCM+ Domain Areas:
Automotive and industrial exhaust after-treatment systems Under-hood and exhaust filter thermal simulation Combustion, cooling jacket, and rotor-stator heat transfer analysis HVAC and data center airflow analysis Electronic component cooling, oil-water-gas separation, and power plant systems Technical CFD Areas:
