In addition, students are offered an extensive student support system, including academic advising, tutoring, enrollment in specialized courses, and activities designed to foster academic success and degree completion.

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities Provides advising, registration advice, and individualized assistance to assigned students from admission through graduation, which could include up to 4 years. Implements advising programs that ensure academic progress and success, such as Registration Outreach, transitional Student Guidance, Early and Mid-Semester Warning systems, Probationary Student Support, Major and Career Decisions, Campus Academic Support and Resources, and others. Maintains contact with all advisees during each semester through in-person meetings, group meetings, phone calls, and email. Communicates available student seminars, workshops, and other support programming for student development. Advises, counsels, and educates students about career resources, job search engines, and graduate school application strategies. Maintains familiarity with all relevant academic policies and procedures. Provides a clear understanding of the required course sequences, pre-requisites, internship, and other educational and career opportunities. Maintains clear and concise advising notes reflecting all advising meetings. Collaborates and communicates with advisors, faculty, staff, and various campus departments and student support offices to develop joint programs and ensure comprehensive support for all Groups Scholars. Responds constructively to a wide range of student inquiries and concerns related to academic needs, personal or private issues, health concerns, family matters, personal relationships, financial concerns, and other matters. Uses sound judgment in responding, referring, and/or calling for additional assistance as the matter dictates. Tracks performance, retention, and graduation rates of assigned students and generates appropriate reports. Maintains confidentiality, complies with university policies, federal and state regulations, and grant and scholarship provisions. Leads the Peer Advisor program by training, mentoring, and guiding Peer Advisors; provides ongoing support in addressing student concerns and complex academic scenarios; and assesses program effectiveness through feedback collection, surveys, and collaborative evaluation with professional advising staff. Serves as the primary liaison between Peer Advisors and professional advising staff. Promotes resource literacy and ensures continuous improvement through feedback and assessment. Attends internal and external meetings, workshops, programs, and conferences to support the position. Creates and delivers the Groups Scholars presentations. Travels inter-campus and intra-campus, as well as within the state of Indiana. General Responsibilities

Provides academic counseling for students pursuing or considering majors, minors, or certificates. Guides students in planning their course of study in concert with the department's curricular requirements; explains curriculum requirements and school and campus policies. Meets with students in groups and one-on-one to guide students in academic programs that will meet their educational needs and the requirements of their chosen major, minor, and/or certificate. Assists students in making informed decisions about a choice of major and potential career or graduate school direction; helps students to assess their interests, values, and academic skills and to understand these in relation to major choice and potential future career/graduate school options. Teaches students how to navigate university systems, academic processes, and policies; empowers student accountability in academic decisions about courses, career direction, and long-term plans; and provides guidance on avenues for increased involvement as an IU student and in the IU community. Refers students to appropriate campus resources, such as academic support resources, placement programs, internships, and overseas study opportunities etc. Tracks and monitors students' academic progress, reviews and maintains confidential student records to ensure that students meet requirements and to document advising discussions, and communicates this information in a timely manner to students and to appropriate academic offices when necessary. Represents the advising function as a presenter at campus meetings and recruiting functions; assists in developing written advising materials for use in student events. Researches, recommends, or creates best practices for unit or campus initiatives, projects, processes, or programs and may provide guidance to other Academic Advisors. Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to solve a variety of problems, whether academic, project management, programming, training, counseling, advising, personal or health issues, or other related student concerns Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build excellent rapport among colleagues and others Practical application and experience with database, spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation software, as well as other applications required for data organization and analysis Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record that is insurable by Indiana University Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$47,000 - $47,500 annually

Work Hours

Monday Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Available for evening and weekend events, which may include travel within and across university campuses as well as within Indiana.
