Date Available: 09/22/25 Position Summary: The Nutley Public School District is a forward-thinking, student-focused PreK-12 organization. The Supervisor must be able develop and cultivate a vision for one content area that intertwines with core tenets of the other content areas and that supports the overarching district vision. The supervisor works successfully with all stakeholders, managing resources as part of the district team in tandem with the other supervisors. The supervisor creates culture and community, leading ethically within the larger context of community and state. The supervisor ensures the support of students and staff and the creation of an environment where the potential of each individual can be maximized.

Qualifications: Teacher Certificate and teaching experience in subject areas of responsibility, and Supervisor Certificate.

Essential Duties: The Subject Area Supervisor has the duties and responsibilities commonly associated with this position, including (but not limited to) the following, which are performed directly or through the proper delegation of authority, within the framework of the general laws of New Jersey, the regulations of the NJ State Department of Education, the policies and rules of the Nutley School District, and the terms of the contract with the Nutley Education Association, with all of which he/she is expected to be familiar.

General Duties and Responsibilities: Manages all aspects of the K-12 English Language Arts (ELA) programs including, but not limited to Curriculum; Assessment; Instruction; Evaluation; Scheduling; State and Federal reporting Curriculum and Instruction

Is responsible for the program review process and formulating and/or revising the curriculum and assessments in alignment with state standards and district goals. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum using internal and external data sets, making necessary adjustments. Develops and directs assessment creation and development, and the administration of assessments. Assists in the creation of the program of studies for the department(s) in conjunction with principals. Reviews all materials (textbooks, equipment, supplies, etc.) for possible selection, adoption, or purchase. Prepares and makes reports and other appropriate presentations regarding 5 year program review cycle and other curriculum and personnel matters for and to the Board of Education as directed by the Superintendent Prepares annual end-of-year report to the Superintendent regarding the progress of the department within the total school curriculum and recommends changes and improvements. Professional Development

Leads department meetings and in-service professional development and facilitates articulation among grade levels and departments Provide ongoing professional development and training opportunities for K-12 ELA teachers to enhance their instructional practices, content knowledge, and cultural competence. Foster a culture of collaboration, reflection, and continuous improvement among staff members. Supervision and Evaluation

Informs and advises teachers through directives or meetings of the philosophy of the Board of Education, the superintendent, the principals, the directors, and the supervisors. Reviews lesson plans as required. Conduct regular classroom observations, provide constructive feedback, and support teachers in improving their instructional practices. Evaluates teachers, prepares evaluation reports and participates with the administration in teachers'conferences related to the evaluation reports. Prepares and submits staff evaluations to the Superintendent and Director of Curriculum and to the appropriate building principal in accordance with District policy. Student Support

Work collaboratively with school teams, counselors, and support staff to develop and implement interventions to support the academic success and socio-emotional well-being of all students. With department, and using data indicators, makes recommendations for class placement at the secondary level. Teach two classes as directed by the superintendent. Parent and Community Engagement

Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents/guardians to keep them informed about program offerings, student progress, and opportunities for involvement. Presents on the program of study during parent information sessions. Collaborate with community organizations, agencies, and stakeholders to enhance support services and resources for students and families. Administrative Duties:

Oversees in the selection of candidates for various competitions and scholarships as well as winners of various commencement awards. Plays an important role in the compilation of information and reports required for the school evaluation by the New Jersey State Department of Education. Interviews candidates and collaborates with administration in selection of teachers. As requested, prepares and presents information at board sub-committees, or public meetings of the Board of Education. Prepares and manages annual budget for department instructional needs including textbooks, technology resources, equipment, and supplies.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is responsible for supervising and evaluating K-12 ELA teachers at all schools, and other instructional and staff members as assigned.

Evaluation of Performance: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the New Jersey Administrative Code and Board of Education Policy. The Subject Area Supervisor is evaluated by the Superintendent or designee and is responsible for any other duties assigned by the Superintendent.

Additional Responsibilities: Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal or superintendent may assign or delegate.

Computer Skills: Proficient in computer applications pertinent to support the position.
