Position Overview:
NTI is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented
Fiber Optic Cable Placement Foreman.
This role is responsible for supervising field crews and executing fiber-optic cable placement across long-haul, metro, and campus build environments. Ideal candidates will have strong technical knowledge of high-count cable handling and field operations across both underground and structured deployments.
Key Responsibilities: Lead a 4-6 person crew in the installation of fiber-optic cable in long-haul, metro, and campus environments. Ensure safe and efficient placement of high-count fiber cables (432, 864, 1728+) using blowing and pulling techniques. Set up, operate, and troubleshoot cable blowing and tugging equipment, including Plumettaz, Condux, GMP, Fremco, etc. Operate hydraulic and pneumatic systems for cable installation in both microduct and standard conduit. Coordinate confined space entry (vaults, manholes, handholes) in full compliance with safety protocols. Oversee fiber cable prepping: mid-sheath access, buffer tube ID, cleaning, tagging, slack routing-ensuring readiness for the splicing team. Interpret construction prints, splice schematics, and fiber routing plans. Conduct daily safety briefings and pre-task planning meetings; assign crew responsibilities. Track progress with daily reports, redlines, photo documentation, and accurate closeout packages. Maintain and inventory all assigned tools, vehicles, trailers, compressors, and test equipment. Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in OSP fiber-optic cable construction (aerial and underground). Proficient in using high-performance blowing and pulling systems (e.g., Plumettaz SuperJet, Condux Fiber Blower, GMP Pullers). Skilled in prepping fiber for splicing (mid-span access, slack storage, labeling, etc.). Strong working knowledge of confined space protocols and data center procedures. Demonstrated leadership in managing fiber crews and meeting field production goals. Ability to interpret fiber routes, construction documents, and engineering prints. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Must pass drug screening; willingness to travel as needed. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Strong communication, organization, and field decision-making skills. Safety & Compliance:
Adhere to OSHA standards, company policies, and IBEW safety regulations. Maintain a clean, safe jobsite and follow all handling and PPE protocols for fiber-optic equipment. Ensure proper documentation of splicing, testing, and cable routing in compliance with customer standards. Work Conditions:
Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Must be able to stand 8-10 hours per day and lift/carry up to 50 lbs. Perform tasks during both daytime and occasional nighttime maintenance windows. Travel may be required depending on jobsite location and project demands.
