Technical Writer/Documentation Specialist
for an upcoming opportunity to support NASA’s Research and Education Support Services (NRESS) contract. This role is responsible for producing high-quality written materials that translate technical and programmatic information into clear, compelling content for a range of audiences, including NASA stakeholders, peer reviewers, and the general public. The ideal candidate has deep experience in writing, editing, and organizing information in science, research, or government environments.
Key Responsibilities
Draft, edit, and finalize technical documents, reports, guidance materials, meeting summaries, and standard operating procedures related to peer review and research program support. Work closely with scientists, program officers, and contract staff to translate complex or technical language into accessible, plain-language content without sacrificing accuracy. Develop briefing materials and talking points for NASA Program Officers, senior staff, and external stakeholders. Create and maintain templates and document standards to ensure consistency with NASA’s branding and communications protocols. Support the development of reviewer resources (e.g., FAQs, review guidance), internal process documentation, and external-facing knowledge products. Ensure documents meet Section 508 accessibility standards and align with federal and NASA writing guidelines. Organize, version, and archive key documents in shared platforms and content management systems.
Required Qualifications
Associate degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or a relevant technical/scientific field. 10 years of experience in technical writing, editing, or documentation, particularly in support of science, research, or government programs. Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information and produce clear, audience-appropriate materials. Excellent written communication, formatting, and attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with document management platforms. U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a NASA Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field. Familiarity with federal research programs, peer review processes, or scientific communication. Experience developing materials in compliance with plain language, Section 508, and NASA-specific communication standards. Graphic design or visual communication experience is a plus but not required.
