Our first therapy, Rezdiffra (resmetirom), was granted accelerated approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of adults with NASH with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis (consistent with stages F2 to F3 fibrosis) and is being studied in a Phase 3 trial for the treatment of NASH with compensated cirrhosis.

Position Summary
Madrigal Pharmaceuticals is seeking an experienced, strategic, and dynamic Vice President of Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) to lead and optimize the management of our biopharmaceutical pipeline. Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the VP, PPM will be a key member of the leadership team responsible for ensuring that all development programs are efficiently planned, resourced, and executed in alignment with corporate priorities and goals. The role encompasses project leadership, cross-functional team integration, portfolio analysis, risk management, and strategic program execution.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership: Drive the planning, coordination, and execution of all clinical and nonclinical development projects across the company’s portfolio, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget. Portfolio Strategy: Partner with the CMO and other executive leaders to develop and continuously refine the company’s portfolio strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate goals, scientific insights, and market opportunities. Governance and Decision-Making: Establish and manage governance structures and processes and design that ensure timely, data-driven decision-making across projects and programs. Cross-functional Collaboration: Lead cross-functional project teams, working closely with Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, CMC, Commercial, Medical Affairs, Finance, and other key functions. Resource and Budget Management: Oversee project budgets, timelines, and resource allocations; anticipate and proactively address resource gaps and conflicts. Risk Management: Identify key project risks and implement mitigation strategies; escalate critical issues to executive leadership as appropriate. Operational Excellence: Develop and deploy best practices, systems, and tools to drive operational excellence across all project and portfolio activities. Reporting and Communication: Regularly communicate portfolio status, key milestones, risks, and opportunities to the CMO, Executive Leadership Team, and Board of Directors as needed. Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing PPM team capable of managing a growing and dynamic portfolio.
Qualifications
Advanced degree in a scientific discipline (Ph.D., Pharm.D., or equivalent strongly preferred); MBA or equivalent business training is a plus. 10-15+ years of relevant experience in biopharmaceutical project management, clinical development, and portfolio management roles, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership capacity. Background in organizational governance and process design within R&D environments. Strong understanding of drug development processes from discovery through commercialization. Demonstrated success in managing complex, cross-functional drug development programs. Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams. Strategic thinker with the ability to operate at both the strategic and operational levels. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Strong business acumen and the ability to interface effectively with executive leadership, investors, and external partners.
Preferred Experience
Experience in metabolic or rare diseases, therapeutic areas. Prior experience working in both small biotech and larger pharmaceutical company environments. Familiarity with regulatory requirements in major markets (e.g., FDA, EMA).

Occasional domestic and international travel required (
Compensation:
Base salary is determined by several factors that include, but are not limited to, a successful candidate's qualifications, skills, education, experience, business needs, and market demands.
