The City of Lynchburg is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Looking for qualified hourly Cooks to prepare and serve meals in a secure detention facility. Applicants must be available to work all shifts and on evenings, weekends and holidays. Work is performed in a team environment under the regular supervision of the facility administration. Must be able to cook and prepare meals according to a set menu and to operate various types of kitchen equipment; also responsible for kitchen clean-up. Essential Duties
Prepares and cooks meats, vegetables and other foods in accordance with menu. Readies meals for transport and serving in each pod. Bakes pastries and breads. Operates standard cooking equipment such as ranges, mixers, food choppers and other kitchen equipment. Assists in estimating and ordering food supplies. Cleans kitchen and equipment; washes dishes. Receives and stacks food supplies. Maintains health and sanitary standards. Conducts routine inventory count of silverware. Dates and rotates food on shelves when food is delivered. Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned. When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery. Carries out trash and garbage. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Minimum Education and Experience Required
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Completion of eleventh grade and considerable experience in cooking foods in large quantities; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Requirements
Prior to employment must have Criminal Record Check, and reference checks completed, and Child Protective Services check initiated. Prior to onset of employment must have tuberculin and drug screen as part of physical examination. Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and obtain ServSafe certification.
