Estimating Engineer Opportunity
Apex Systems is currently hiring for an Estimating Engineer for an on-site position in Reno, Nevada. A client of Apex Systems in the energy and utility sector is hiring an Estimating Engineer to lead cost estimation for utility-scale infrastructure projects, with a strong focus on substation builds and upgrades. This position plays a crucial role in capital planning, project budgeting, and grid interconnection efforts. Job title: Estimating Engineer Pay rate: Negotiable, up to $120,000 annually with PTO and benefits Location: Must be onsite in Reno, NV, no exceptions, relo assistance available if needed Key Responsibilities: Develop detailed cost estimates and budgets for utility projects Interpret one-line diagrams, design drawings, and engineering studies Conduct material take-offs and sequence construction planning Maintain historical cost databases and support multi-year financial forecasting Collaborate with engineering, asset management, and project delivery teams Analyze internal versus external build options Ensure accurate documentation and regulatory compliance Qualifications: Engineering degree from an accredited institution Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with PE license, or 8+ years without PE Proven experience estimating substation projects within the utility sector Strong grasp of cost modeling principles and Excel proficiency Ability to interpret technical drawings and scoping documents Familiarity with grid integration and interconnection processes Preferred Experience: PE license Transmission line, civil, or protection/control design Breaker specs, steel/tariff pricing, contractor bid evaluation Interconnection customer negotiations Knowledge of unit-based estimating frameworks This is a high-impact opportunity for engineers eager to shape large-scale energy infrastructure and long-term project planning.
