Position Summary

The Data Engineer IV is a senior technical leader responsible for architecting and implementing scalable, secure, and high-performance data solutions across cloud and hybrid environments. This role emphasizes Azure Data Fabric, or similar cloud platforms like AWS, Databricks, etc. to enable unified data access, governance, and analytics across the enterprise. In addition to technical leadership, the Data Engineer IV plays a pivotal role in mentoring and developing the data engineering team. This includes guiding engineers through architectural decisions, conducting hands-on training sessions, leading code reviews, and fostering a collaborative learning environment. The role is expected to champion best practices, support career growth, and ensure the team remains aligned with evolving data strategies and technologies.

The Clayton Data Engineering team is responsible for data movement into the Enterprise Data Warehouse, Operational Data Stores, and between operational systems on-prem and on the public cloud such as AWS. The Data Engineer IV will be responsible for the development of advanced data infrastructure solutions that present information for decision making, sourcing data from a variety of sources within and outside of the Clayton organization. The Data Engineer IV will collaborate with and learn from motivated team members with various backgrounds and areas of expertise.

About The Team

The Clayton Data Engineering team works in an agile/scrum environment from a backlog of work requests generated by multiple Clayton business units and analytics teams. The team designs, develops, and implements database architecture and data pipeline processes for migration/transformation of data into the data warehouse for reporting and analytical use. The team monitors these processes, troubleshoots, and improves load performance.

Primary Responsibilities Translate stakeholder requirements into technical specifications that can be used for development and break down technical complexities so that they can be easily understood by business units and end users. Design, develop, and implement database architecture and data pipeline processes for migration/transformation of data into the data warehouse for reporting and analytical use. Participate in team code reviews, sprint planning and retrospectives, script cut, and CI/CD build and deploy processes. Primary Qualifications

Advanced Azure experience Bachelor or master degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or Information Management. Demonstrates proficiency in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals Enjoys working with people and collaborates effectively with team members Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to interact with a diverse group of team members, including executives, managers, IT professionals, and subject matter experts Great attitude towards learning new platforms and technology stack, and taking on new tasks Lead customer meetings to review work projects, scope, requirements and completed work results Desired Skills

Develop robust and scalable solutions that transform data into a useful format for analysis, enhance data flow, and enable users to consume and analyze data fast and easier Take a lead role in the design, development, test, implementation, and maintenance of automated data pipeline features and data processing jobs using ETL tools such as SSIS, StarQuest, AWS Glue, AWS Migration Service, or Azure Data Factory Design, implement, and maintain flattened, relational, and dimensional data models • Perform root cause analysis on external and internal processes and data to identify opportunities for improvement • Provide "how to" documentation for Data Engineering processes and procedures as well as documentation of pipelines and systems Has strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to represent complex algorithms in software Ability to translate stakeholder requirements into technical specifications that can be used for development and break down technical complexities so that they can be easily understood by business units and end users. Experience in JIRA and Agile Methodology preferred, but not required 10+ years of experience supporting large scale, mission-critical data pipelines using ETL tools such as SSIS, AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, or StarQuest 10+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server or Postgres database platforms and in designing, implementing, and maintaining data models 10+ years SQL experience and successful completion of a technical SQL assessment in the interview process Experience in one programming language such as C#, Python, Scala, Java, and R Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, GCP Experience in using a source control tool such as .git Have a sound understanding of data modeling, assessing quality of data, and data cleansing principles and techniques Mentor new Data Engineering team members Why Clayton Homes?

Pay range: $157,427 and $192,411
