Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of Donor Relations, the Associate Director for Donor Relations is a member of a high-performing team that works to create and implement strategies that help strengthen and reinforce the relationships with the Universitys stakeholders. Donor Relations/Stewardship collaborates with Development and University Relations ( DAUR ) colleagues and other University officers to support the Universitys advancement activities and to promote productive interactions with alumni and friends through a donor-centric mindset. The Associate Director will gather information about donor-funded programs and create compelling reports and strategies outlining the value and impact of these investments on Fordham students, faculty and programs. The incumbent seeks continuous improvement in standards and practices of donor relations team and provides excellent customer service to donors, faculty, students, and colleagues across the University. Must work occasional events on nights and weekends.

Essential Functions

Stewards donors of endowed and current-use funds through envisioning and executing written impact reports, opportunistic stewardship touches, special recognition projects and events, and other University-wide engagement activities.

Maintains comprehensive knowledge of key University donors and is responsible for proactively planning, organizing, and managing stewardship projects.

Gathers information about donor-funded programs and activities, and produces tailored stewardship reports conveying impact of these investments on the University.

Works closely with fundraisers to creatively and proactively develop individual stewardship strategies and solicits input in prioritizing funds/donors to be stewarded.

Keeps accurate, comprehensive, up-to-date information on strategic stewardship plans for individual donors and all funds reported on and monitored. Coordinates University stewardship with colleagues in each of the academic units and fosters strong relationships with peers throughout the University.

In collaboration with DAUR colleagues, conducts research on new and existing funds to create compelling, meaningful, and timely stewardship reports on behalf of University officials, including the president, provost, and other senior administrators.

Partners with University Marketing and Communications ( UMC ) team to produce non-written stewardship pieces, such as customized photobooks, videos, and other meaningful mementos, to engage the Universitys most generous donors. May partner with Office of Special Events to coordinate special recognition events for donors to enhance stewardship strategy.

Utilizes internal database and reporting platforms to run and analyze donor and gift reports, and works closely with Advancement Services to research fund status and monitor for compliance with fund terms and donor intent.

Additional Functions

Answers donor queries and provides ad hoc research and other support for Donor Relations projects as needed. Must be able to serve as an editor and proofreader for documents produced by colleagues in Donor Relations.

Assists in the planning and execution of the annual Scholarship Donors and Recipients Reception and other donor recognition events as necessary.

Creates and edits copy for social media, photos, videos, reports, special events, or other deliverables for donors.

Exhibits behavior that supports the mission, vision, and values of the university and DAUR in interactions with donors, colleagues and other stakeholders. Models high standards of professional, responsible, accountable, and ethical conduct. Demonstrates a commitment to outstanding customer service.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience

BA in English, Communications, Business, or Marketing required.

Minimum four years experience in non-profit, higher education, or communications/publishing-related field.

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills

Familiarity with Fordham University and its mission, as well as the ability to fully articulate that mission to donors and volunteers.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with a strong command of English grammar and usage.

Experience as a proofreader, editor, or writer, preferably with prior experience writing and editing under executive level signatures.

High level of attention to detail needed.

Strong computer literacy, with fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) and Adobe Acrobat.

Proficiency in creating and executing complex mail merges.

Ability to work comfortably with a database and learn new technologies.

Demonstrated initiative, commitment to excellence, success, and high level of accuracy, detail and discretion.

Excellent project and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the University, with a customer service orientation.
