The Mercy Medical Center Pharmacy Department is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist to join our Inpatient acute care team! This position will spend time on decentralized clinical areas as well as rotate through the central inpatient pharmacy, with the potential to also staff in ambulatory care areas. Decentralized shifts include interdisciplinary team rounding, patient education opportunities, and a wide variety of clinical medication management. When staffing in the central inpatient pharmacy, the Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for aspects of pharmaceutical care for all patients, including oversight of sterile compounding and ensuring accurate medication distribution. The position will have rotating shifts including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays. On average this position staffs 60-75% of shifts on day shifts; 2 – 3 weekends per quarter; and every third holiday (of 7 recognized holidays). This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care through integrated drug distribution, clinical services, and teaching.
Job Duties
Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team inter- and intra-departmentally to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Responsible for intra-departmental communication. Maintains a working knowledge of and complies with pharmacy policy and standards of work and the laws, rules, and regulations that govern the distribution of medications. Assists with special projects pertaining to specific area of interest and/or expertise. Develops and implements quality improvements to ensure safe and cost-effective management of pharmaceuticals. Participates in the training and education or new employees and pharmacy students. Demonstrates evidence of continued professional development. Participates in the drug therapy management of medical emergencies, as needed Provides clinical pharmacy services through consultation, drug information, teaching and/or committee work. Detects, monitors, and documents adverse drug reactions and medication errors. Documents clinical interventions. Collaborates with physicians, nurses and other members of the healthcare team to ensure appropriate medication therapy. Oversees accurate preparation and distribution of medication orders. Reviews, evaluates and interprets medication orders for appropriateness. Department Specific Duties

Ability to meet the pharmaceutical care needs of the following patient age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
Professional Experience
Two years as a licensed pharmacist with enhanced clinical responsibilities preferred. Successful completion of an Accredited American Society of Health-System Pharmacist (ASHP) Residency Program preferred.
Education
Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in pharmacy, required.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
Must have current Iowa Pharmacist License or be eligible for Iowa Board of Pharmacy pharmacist licensure. Employment is contingent upon being licensed by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy by start date. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association preferred. Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) preferred. Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse & Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
