Information Governance Regulatory and Privacy Manager
to join the IS Information Governance team. Position summary:
Cooley Technology embraces a culture of customer service excellence, and all members of the department are expected to advance this agenda. The Information Governance Regulatory and Privacy Manager recognizes that the department is primarily a service organization, and will be evaluated on this basis alongside technical responsibilities. The Manager is responsible for managing information risk and ensuring compliance with security and privacy regulations through the firm's governance, risk, and compliance program. Responsibilities include vendor security assessments, analysis of client security obligations, cybersecurity audits, data mapping, and privacy regulation compliance. The role involves managing business professionals in IG Regulatory and Privacy, and promoting firm policies related to governance, risk, and compliance, as well as records and information management. Responsibilities include: Developing goals and objectives aligned with IG strategic planning Creating and monitoring annual budgets Applying data protection, privacy, and confidentiality principles to information management in coordination with IS Security Assessing staffing needs and managing workflow Auditing firm responsibilities against outside counsel guidelines Managing vendor security assessments and relationships Developing IG Regulatory and Privacy training programs Documenting operational procedures Understanding and communicating IG policies and obligations Negotiating and managing vendor contracts and performance Leading projects to meet organizational goals Conducting compliance audits Building relationships to support organizational objectives Managing information governance activities in line with ISO standards, GDPR, CCPA, and other regulations Maintaining ISO certifications and tracking compliance Monitoring global privacy and security regulations and developments, including AI and data management standards Managing Data Subject Access Requests Overseeing operational teams and vendors in information lifecycle management Implementing controls to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information Supporting technology procurement and implementation for IG and privacy Staying current with emerging technologies and trends Managing compliance labels and policies in Microsoft O365/M365 Overseeing IG systems and tools installation and maintenance Supervising and mentoring direct reports, managing staffing and performance Supporting professional development and employee lifecycle events Performing other duties as assigned Skills and experience: Required: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, iManage, and other firm applications after orientation Ability to work extended hours and travel as needed 5+ years of relevant experience in Records & Information Management, including 3+ years in governance, risk, and compliance, security, and auditing Experience with WorkSite and technical skills related to IG management, data mapping, privacy, and document management systems Preferred: Bachelor's degree in relevant fields Strong project management and information security experience Experience evaluating vendor security and implementing new technologies Law firm or professional services experience Knowledge of GARP principles and certifications like CRM, IGP, CIPP, CISM, CISSP Experience with data lifecycle management tools and systems such as Varonis, DLP, Box, MS Teams, etc. Competencies: Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills Team player with attention to detail and professionalism Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple locations, and adapt to change Cooley offers competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and is committed to equitable employment practices. EOE. The annual pay range is $115,000 - $170,000, dependent on location, experience, and skills. Senior candidates may receive higher offers.
