Summary : We are seeking a Controller to join our rapidly growing manufacturing and transportation services company to oversee accounting operations and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and reporting in this long-established family business. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and comfortable managing multiple accounting functions including accounts receivable, accounts payable, financial reporting, compliance and oversight of third-party services. The current controller is retiring and will be available to assist in the transition of the position. We love working together and are thrilled to bring someone on board who shares that energy. Essential Functions and Duties Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Responsible for general ledger and monthly financial statements and reconciliations. Assist leadership with financial analysis and reports as needed. Responsible for the budgeting process and ongoing evaluation of budget to actual results. Monitor and reconcile all bank accounts. Verify and reconcile contracts, orders, vouchers, and prepare reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement. Prepare monthly sales reports in accounting software for analysis. Oversee the quarterly and annual calculation of depreciation and asset valuation adjustments, reconciling discrepancies as needed. Manage cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for operations. Monitor and reconcile all credit card accounts. Oversee the billing process and timely collections. Oversee accounts payable duties including invoice processing and vendor payments. Assist external CPAs with preparation and filing of personal property tax affidavits and Form 1099. Record banking and journal entries as needed. Track fixed asset activity. Collaborate with leadership and provide advice and assistance on errors such as cost over-runs, excessive charges, past-due accounts and potential penalties. Coordinate and oversee financial due diligence processes, including review of historical performance, forecasts, and risk assessments. Perform assigned projects timely and accurately to facilitate executive needs which may, at times, included forecasting and “what if” analyses. Develop models to depict financial and related activities tailored for specific operations. Responsible for accounting policies and procedures and related documentation. Continually review and enhance internal controls. Compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Collaborate with external CPAs by providing necessary quarterly and year-end reports and data. Communicate with customers and vendors on AR and AP inquiries. Participate in cross training with other accounting and financial duties as instructed. Education/Certification and Experience BS or BA in accounting or equivalent degree required. 3+ years of previous Controller or equivalent experience required. CPA and/or CMA certification preferred. Familiarity with Acumatica, Sage Mas 90, or similar third-party finance platforms. Previous experience in a manufacturing or transportation industry preferred. Expertise with generally accepted accounting principles. Strong technical and financial management capacity including expertise in managing the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, work-in-process, third party reporting, banking and cash management. Manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Ability to communicate effectively with Company leadership, employees, customers, vendors and compliance authorities fostering consensus and cooperation. Proven strong analytical/problem solving, judgment, time management, critical thinking and organizational skills. Ethical conduct and personal effectiveness/credibility. Experience in the construction and/or supplier industry. Supervisory Responsibilities This position is responsible for overseeing an AP/AR Specialist and will provide mentorship to enhance job growth, efficiencies, and performance. This position will conduct the annual performance evaluation of the accounting specialist. Work Environment and Physical Demands This position operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as phones, computers, printers, photocopiers/scanners, filing cabinets, etc. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing or similar tasks are required. This would require the ability to lift files, open cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.Position requires sitting for long periods; manual dexterity to be able to write, type and use a keyboard or 10-key proficiently; ability to lift items up to 25 pounds; ability to clearly communicate by telephone, email and in person; ability to use a computer and other electronic equipment. Office hours are typically Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm with overtime as required. Work Authorization/Security Clearance This position requires authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. No security clearance is required.
