Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Staff Engineer Software – X-Lab Staff Software Developer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Colorado Springs, CO, and Schriever Space Force Base, CO. Position Overview: The X-Lab needs a senior-level software engineer to assist in full-cycle software development, including requirements, design, implementation, integration, and testing. The position is split into two roles. The first is for a software engineer on the C2BMC program to develop and test innovative solutions supporting X-Lab projects and experiments. The second is for an X-Lab software development team member to support software development on C2BMC Global. The primary work location is the Missile Defense Integration and Operations Center (MDIOC) at Schriever Space Force Base, CO. Essential Functions: Responsible for software development in
Java
Responsible for performing in-depth analysis and technical support of systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support
Maintains currency, debugs, and configures related software products
Responsible for the development of
CI/CD
pipeline, Dynamic and Static analysis of the Mission Data Services and associated tools
Works from specifications to develop or modify operating systems applications
Assists with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and program documentation
Interfaces with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards, and improve the overall efficiency of the operating system
Designs, codes, tests, and implements tools for operations automation
Works on most phases of software systems programming applications and may require instruction and guidance
Will write and implement engineering plans within a project
Will analyze high-level needs and, through a structured and logical approach, refine the need into an integrated set of requirements that lead to a fielded product
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, Software Engineering, Science or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 12 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in a related STEM discipline and 10 years of experience, or a PhD and 8 years of experience, or 16 years of related experience in lieu of a degree may be considered
Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD-issued
Secret
security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start with the ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance
DoD 8140 certification at
IAT Level II or higher
is required to start
Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs
Applicants must have a strong understanding of system software design and development, Java development, object-oriented development principles and implementation, service-oriented architecture development principles and implementation, and software architecture.
Applicants must have significant experience with

Applicants must understand and possess demonstrable skills, including developing
Java software
and translating requirements into software design
Ability to refactor code for reusability, readability, and maintainability in an object-oriented codebase
Applicants must understand and decompose requirements to support verification and validation testing of software components
Ability to generate detailed, repeatable test procedures and functionality
Must have the ability to extract data to support analysis requirements
Must be able to perform and have knowledge of Agile Development
Must have experience and knowledge in all aspects of the software development life cycle
Must be experienced with: Eclipse
Maven
Git
Open-source development tools
Must have experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions
Must communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings
Preferred Qualifications: Current and active TS/SCI clearance is highly desired
Previous work on IRAD-type projects and be comfortable with rapidly changing requirements, design challenges that require novel solutions, fast-paced activities, and tight deadlines
