About GRAM
GRAM is a Self-Replication (SR) company. What AGI is to bits, SR is to atoms.
Our mission is to enable physical exponential growth to make humanity galactic. Insectoid α, our first act, is a new type of general-purpose intelligence that challenges the consensus view that humanoids will automate our future. We are a small team of engineers and scientists who recognize the significance of the coming decades. We operate without bureaucracy. Ownership and leadership flow naturally to those who demonstrate exceptional capability and drive. Every team member works directly on core technology. We demand precision in communication and relentless focus on what matters: building machines that build themselves.
The physical world is about to compound. If you see this future clearly, you belong here.
Role Description
This role designs parts that robots can eventually build themselves, enabling true self-replication. Core tasks include creating modular components for swarm assembly, optimizing tolerances for field manufacturing, and selecting materials compatible with robotic fabrication.
Responsibilities
- Design modular robot parts that can be fabricated by hexapods themselves in self-replication processes.
- Optimize manufacturing tolerances for components enduring industrial stresses like vibration on ship hulls.
- Develop assembly sequences for swarm-based production, minimizing tools needed for on-site replication.
- Select materials for cost-effective, durable parts compatible with electropermanent magnet adhesion.
- Prototype and iterate designs for scalability, ensuring parts support wall-climbing and manipulation functions.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design for manufacturability in robotics.
- Expertise in CAD/CAM software like SolidWorks and additive manufacturing techniques.
- Understanding of modular design principles and robotic assembly kinematics.
- Experience with material selection for harsh environments and rapid prototyping.
- Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing; degree not necessary with evidence of exceptional ability.
We work out of GRAM's El Segundo research lab. Candidates should be prepared to relocate to Los Angeles if necessary.
Interview Process
After submitting your application, we review your portfolio and any exceptional work you've shipped. If your application demonstrates the caliber we seek, you'll enter our streamlined process designed to complete within one week:
- Initial Screen (15 minutes): A focused conversation with a technical team member to assess baseline fit and mutual interest.
- Technical Assessment: Sessions evaluating your engineering depth.
- Deep Dive: Present a project where you pushed technical boundaries. We care about the problems you chose and how you solved them.
- Team Integration: Meet the engineers and scientists building the self-replicating future. Culture fit matters when the mission is this ambitious.
Compensation
Your total compensation reflects both the significance of early-stage equity and competitive market rates:
- Base Salary: $100,000 - $300,000 USD, calibrated to your impact potential
- Equity: Substantial ownership stake befitting founding team members
- Benefits: Health, dental, and vision coverage; all meals are paid for; relocation assistance
