Are you an experienced Mechanic? Juneau International Airport is hiring a Senior Mechanic to help with servicing and repair of heavy equipment.
Under the general direction of the Superintendent, services, repairs, and maintains airport mechanical equipment. Collects and presents information needed to maintain fleet and prepares recommendations and justification for acquisition of new vehicles and equipment. Maintains written records and logs on service and repair costs. Responsible for service delivery during all operating hours the airport.

JNU Airfield Division staff work collaboratively as a high-functioning team with the shared goal of ensuring the operational safety of the airport for the community and the flying public.
WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position involves shift work that includes days, nights, weekends, holidays and being on-call. Additionally, this position also requires recalls to the airport for emergencies and weather events. Your office would be located at the airfield maintenance shop.
Typical Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this position is the servicing, repair, and maintenance of automotive and heavy equipment for the Juneau International Airport. The incumbent removes, replaces, cleans, and examines mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic parts, components, and subassemblies. Repairs, fills, paints automotive and heavy equipment bodies. Tunes and adjusts automotive and heavy equipment for proper operation. Independently performs inspections, adjustments, repairs and replacement of defective automotive and heavy equipment parts and components such as engines, transmissions, emissions, differentials, pumps, mechanical joints and couplers, pneumatic and hydraulic lines, switches and cylinders, electrical solenoids, breakers, leads, switches and meters. Straightens bent frame assemblies, sheet metal, suspension parts, and aligns wheels. Performs diagnoses of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic automotive and heavy equipment and component failures, and determine cause of unusual noises. Works without benefit of assigned technical supervision and often supervises mechanical work performed with airfield employees. Also performs some fabrication with oxygen-acetylene and TIG welders on heavy equipment.
Establishes and maintains work progress, supply and time records. Advises on the ordering of needed parts and supplies. Operates shop equipment in the manufacture and repair of needed parts. Operate snow removal equipment as required, including loaders, motor graders, sanding trucks, sweepers and blowers. Will also be responsible to maintain emergency generators and gate operators on the airfield.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Four (4) years of experience in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of heavy-duty equipment, of which, at least two (2) years must have been at the journey level.
Substitution: Post-secondary education or technical training in automotive work may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of 125 clock hours of instruction for one month of experience up to a maximum of twenty-four months.
Other: Must provide and maintain own set of hand tools (Exception: Airport Position will be provided their own set of hand tools).
Sr. Airport Mechanic requires a valid Class "A" Alaska Commercial Driver's License valid for vehicles equipped with air brakes and with a Tanker (N) endorsement at time of appointment and for continued employment.
Supplemental Information
SPECIAL NOTE: *Initial appointment to all FMCSA positions requiring a CDL will be made conditionally pending (1) receipt of verified negative results of pre-employment testing for controlled substances and (2) passing a 3-year drug & alcohol testing background check with previous DOT employers. Employees must register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse and provide CBJ with paper and electronic consent for a full query of the driver's Clearinghouse record. Employee will then be subject to the City and Borough's drug-testing program.
Employment as a Sr. Airport Mechanic is contingent upon passing a TSA-required security check per 49 CFR 1542 and 1544 and Airport Security Program. This will require an FBI fingerprint criminal history records check. Continued employment is contingent on ability to maintain a favorable security check.
Appointments will be made conditionally pending successful completion of all portions of the selections process, a medical evaluation* and receipt of verified negative results of pre-employment testing for controlled substances. Employee will then be subject to random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol tests as mandated by the Federal Transit Administration and CBJ policy.
