Overview:
Our client, a well-established and multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join its team in Durham, NC. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to lead electrical engineering projects across a variety of sectors including municipal, commercial, educational, and healthcare facilities.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage electrical engineering projects from concept through construction
  • Design and develop electrical systems including lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, and low voltage systems
  • Oversee the preparation of construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and architects to ensure integrated project delivery
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff
  • Perform site visits and field inspections to assess existing conditions and ensure construction compliance
  • Coordinate with clients, utility companies, and regulatory agencies as needed
  • Ensure projects meet applicable codes, standards, and quality assurance guidelines
  • Participate in proposal development and project budgeting
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • PE (Professional Engineer) license required, preferably in North Carolina or the ability to obtain reciprocity
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, ideally within consulting or A/E firms
  • Strong knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), lighting design, and energy codes
  • Proficiency with electrical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and SKM or similar
  • Strong leadership, communication, and client-facing skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with sustainable design practices and LEED projects
  • Familiarity with local and state building codes in North Carolina
