BUS MECHANIC (Part-time)
Location: Terry D. Follbaum Administration Building
Salary: $30 - $40/hour/Negotiable based on education, training, and experience
Reports To: Maintenance Executive
JOB GOAL: To perform repair and preventive maintenance services for motor vehicles operated by the school district to ensure operation at an optimum level of safety, efficiency and reliability.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advanced technical training through college or trade school with focus on chassis, power trains, system repair, mechanical body, and analysis for medium truck (school bus knowledge preferred).
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of same in both diesel and gas powered equipment.
  • Possess current State of Michigan or ASE certifications as a Certified Mechanic, medium duty truck.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Provide all mechanical tools to perform the position.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with all personnel.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and maps.
  • Will be subject to a pre-hire physical including lumbar - 5 view spine series.
Must have necessary knowledge, skills and experience as listed below:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Keep accurate maintenance and repair records for District vehicles and equipment.
  • Diagnose, repair, rebuild, and make necessary adjustments on all vehicle systems (including, but not limited to, buses, trucks, grounds equipment, snow plows, and salt spreaders).
  • Keep the District's garage and equipment in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
  • Prepare busses for the Annual State Police Bus Inspection.
  • Report any hazardous tool, or condition promptly, and make recommendations for replacement of needed equipment
  • Use safe practices at all times.
  • Keep an accurate accounting/inventory of all District owned equipment and supplies.
  • Operate all vehicles and equipment according to applicable rules, regulations, safety guidelines, and as prescribed by laws.
  • Wash the bus fleet, as needed or assigned.
  • Any other duties that the Board/Supervisor might deem appropriate or necessary.

SCHEDULE: Flexible Hours
SALARY: $30 - $40/hour/negotiable based on education, training, and experience.
