Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Kitchen Cook to join our daycare center team. The Kitchen Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, age-appropriate meals and snacks for children in accordance with state guidelines and dietary needs. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a clean and healthy kitchen environment and supporting the overall well-being of the children in our care.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, prepare, and serve meals and snacks based on approved menus, ensuring nutritional guidelines are followed
• Accommodate children with allergies or special dietary needs, maintaining strict food safety and cross-contamination protocols
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and sanitation standards in accordance with local and state health regulations
• Receive, store, and manage inventory of food supplies and kitchen equipment
• Document food temperatures, sanitation checks, and meal records as required
• Follow proper procedures for food storage, labeling, and waste disposal
• Collaborate with staff to ensure mealtime schedules align with classroom routines
• Participate in kitchen inspections, staff meetings, and training sessions as required
• Report any safety hazards or supply shortages to the Center Director promptly
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED required
• Previous experience in food preparation, preferably in a childcare, school, or institutional setting
• Knowledge of basic nutrition, food safety, and sanitation practices
• Current Food Handler's Certificate or ServSafe Certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Must pass background checks and meet local childcare regulatory requirements
