Position Summary:
Part of the facility dietary team responsible for preparing food according to established recipes and assuring that the kitchen meets all safety and cleanliness meeting federal, state and CHCS rules and regulations.
Essential Functions Statement(s) Weigh, measure and mix ingredients according to recipes using various kitchen utensils and equipment. Use cooking techniques including but not limited to turning or stirring food, baking, roasting, broiling or steaming, washing, peeling, cutting, seeding fruits and vegetables, and carving/trimming meat. Clean, cut and cook meat, fish or poultry. Cook foodstuffs according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or numbers of portions to be served. Clean and inspect kitchen equipment and appliances and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation. Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling or piercing them with utensils. Store and label leftovers. Compile and maintain records of food use and expenditures. Take inventory of supplies and equipment. Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature. Inspect and clean food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces, or serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food handling practices. Direct activities of one or more workers who assist in preparing and serving meals. Supports and abides by the mission, values, and policies of CHCS in all activities. On-going compliance with CHCS educational requirements. All other duties as required.
