Instructor, Fire Academy

Provides instruction of courses in Firefighter I & II certification, advanced fire and EMS programs including American Heart Association classes, according to state of Ohio and AHA approved curriculum. The instructor must be able to coordinate and evaluate student performance through various evaluation processes. Essential Functions

Provides appropriate feedback to students Provides a learning environment appropriate for enhancing academic progress Provides instructional methodologies consistent with student needs within the program guidelines Provides well-defined goals for student achievements Motivates and encourage optimum achievement in students Maintains up-to-date academic and attendance records in compliance with school and regulatory organization policies and guidelines Delivers instruction materials professionally and consistently within program curricular guidelines Assists in updating, revising, and implementing curricular objectives and content Fosters effective communication between students, staff, and administration Collects and analyzes program and participant data to ensure programs meet industry needs Performs other duties as assigned Required Qualifications

Education and Experience/Training High School diploma or equivalent with at least one (1) of the following required qualifications: Valid State of Ohio Firefighter II certification Valid State of Ohio Fire & Emergency Services Instructor certification Valid State of Ohio Fire Safety Inspector certification Valid State of Ohio Hazard Recognition Officer certification Valid State of Ohio EMS provider certification Valid America Heart Associate Instructor certification Valid Ohio driver's license and ability to meet the College's insurability requirements Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to determine needs of students and identify solutions Possess knowledge of firefighting and/or EMS operations and training equipment Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion in the performance of duties Ability to work independently as well as in small interdisciplinary teams Ability to work with industry partners and governmental agencies Ability to cultivate relationships and effectively collaborate with diverse groups of stakeholders Team Player with a track record of leading and inspiring others Ability to travel locally and regionally to locations of classes Possess a solid commitment to providing excellent customer service Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Possess strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail Possess basic-level proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or equivalent software Possess sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population Competencies

Education and Experience/Training Associate's degree in related field Experience in practical application of firefighting and fire training Experience in practical application of EMS care and EMS training Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Work requires ability to stand for extended periods of time, walk, bend, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Work is partially performed in an environment with conditions that affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, and gases. Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite. If hired, you must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of this work location/campus to respond to onsite work demands upon the employment start date and throughout the duration of your employment with the College.
