Safe Communities of Madison-Dane County is a 501(c)(3) coalition dedicated to preventing injury and saving lives. For over 25 years we have partnered with more than 350 public and private organizations to tackle Dane County’s leading causes of serious injury and death: overdose, suicide, elder falls, and traffic safety. We champion equity by engaging vulnerable populations and people with lived experience, ensuring safety for all. Position Overview As Executive Director, you’ll lead the organization’s strategy, programs, and operations—guiding Safe Communities into its next chapter of impact. Reporting to the Board of Directors, you’ll be the driving force behind fundraising, community outreach, and partnership-building, while ensuring organizational fiscal health and overall mission and vision alignment. We will be accepting applications for this position through 3pm on August 15. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Governance: Partner with the Board to define and uphold the organization’s mission and strategic vision. Provide timely, accurate updates and insights so the Board can make informed decisions. Develop and execute a diversified fundraising strategy, including grants, major gifts, and events. Lead annual budgeting, oversee financial reporting, and maintain strong fiscal controls and auditing standards. Program Strategy & Outreach: Oversee program implementation that advances injury prevention goals. Spearhead long-term strategic planning and community engagement initiatives. Represent Safe Communities as the primary spokesperson in professional, civic, and media settings. Team & Operations Management: Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing staff. Ensure efficient day-to-day operations and effective administrative systems. Sign contracts and official documents on behalf of the organization. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree a plus). Minimum five years of senior leadership experience in a nonprofit or similar environment. Proven track record in fundraising, donor relations, and revenue diversification. Exceptional strategic thinker with the ability to communicate vision to diverse audiences. Strong financial acumen, including budget development and fiscal oversight. Demonstrated success working with Boards of Directors. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High integrity, transparent leadership style, and commitment to equity. Salary & Benefits Competitive salary commensurate with experience Seniority level
