Research Assistant - Internal Medicine (Gastro)
The Research Assistant will support research activities focused on obesity and liver disease. Responsibilities include performing biological and biochemical assays, processing and storing human specimens, conducting experiments, analyzing data, documenting results, and assisting with animal research. The role requires the ability to perform assays independently and collaborate with supervisors to review assignments, troubleshoot issues, and make minor adjustments to laboratory procedures and techniques as needed. Job Duties: Perform quantitative bioassays such as ELISA and Luminex-based multiplex assays using various biological samples, including rodent and human plasma, serum, nasal fluid, and cell culture media. Prepare data summaries for communication with investigators. Perform basic mouse husbandry, including colony management, setting up and maintaining breeding cages, tagging and genotyping pups, and maintaining accurate records. Assist with routine animal care and research procedures, including tissue collection, enzyme assays, DNA isolation, PCR, and other analytical techniques. Support administrative tasks related to research core operations, animal research documentation, and training of new investigators. Participate in general lab maintenance and upkeep. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a scientific field. Experience may substitute for degree on a year for year basis. Experience in mouse husbandry, molecular biology, cell biology, virology, or biochemistry. Knowledge of laboratory safety and regulatory requirements as demonstrated by application materials. Skills: Communication skills. Organization and time management skills. Computer skills. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above. Pay Range: $22.66 - $32.85 Minimum $22.66 Midpoint $27.75 Maximum $32.85
