Medical Physics Assistant

The Medical Physics Assistant position provides hands-on assistance with routine machine QA, patient-specific QA (including portal dosimetry and ion chamber measurements), and equipment performance checks to help ensure the safety and accuracy of radiation therapy treatments. Job Relationships Reports to the Lead, Medical Physicist Principal Responsibilities Perform routine machine QA on Varian linear accelerators, Siemens CT simulators, and Brainlab ExacTrac Dynamic under the supervision of the clinical physics team. Conduct patient-specific QA, including portal dosimetry and ion chamber measurements, and assist in analyzing and preparing results for physicist review. Assist with daily, monthly, and annual QA procedures using specialized equipment and software. Support calibration, performance testing, and troubleshooting of treatment and imaging systems. Organize and maintain accurate documentation of QA activities, calibration logs, and service records. Contribute to equipment commissioning and clinical implementation of new technology. Coordinate with physicists, dosimetrists, and therapists to ensure safe and efficient clinical operations across both sites. Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures. Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy. Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards. Perform other job duties as assigned. Education/Experience At least 2 years of education in a science-related degree program (e.g., physics, engineering, medical technology, or a related field). Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience in a clinical or technical healthcare setting is preferred but not required. Familiarity with radiation therapy QA tools, portal dosimetry systems, and ion chamber measurements is a strong plus but not required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficiency with Microsoft Office and an ability to quickly learn clinical software tools. Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a collaborative team mindset. Must be able to travel between Springfield and Jacksonville locations as required.
